Hello all
yesterday was dyno time for our drag car, as on Saturday we have the first race for this year. Luck was on our side and we ended the dyno session with good results and without any problems, I would like to thank especially Johannes Persson of JPM for his precious help on our c.e. heads and raptor camshaft and technical backup on engine, also Peter Kohmann from CSP for his precious technical help on setting the car in general and providing us with high tech stuff (you know turbo, wheelies etc), also Jussi of kuplapaja for finding us the base car and all of our friends assisting every day in the shop. Also a special thank to you all on this exceptional site which you have helped with your answers on our questions from time to time, trully you're a pure inspiration
A small video of a dyno session from yesterday, the engine finally showed 477HP at about 8700 without dropping yet the curve, torque about 400Nm, with 1,7bars, 10,5 lamda, 23 deg advance and Vp import gas

Wish us luck tomorrow on the race

Hi
thank you all for the kind words, Udo I will post pics and videos tomorrow, we're running in the Greek championship and because of luck of other beetles so as to form an own category we enter in a category with 4wheel drivers -we're treated like that because we have clear advantage comparative with the front wheelers- and so being we have to compete with a ford escort turbo with 1300Hp, a lancer with the same amount of hp and a celica with 900Hp. Good think is that all of them are in the nine's so we have also to make something serious to the race, let's see..

Hey Dimitrios,
Good to finally see your car/engine doing so well!
Very good hp at very high rpm! The torque seems a little low for such high hp on a turbo engine. At what rpm was max torque reached?
Greetings,
Walter

Hello all
The first race was good -it could be better though- first pass of the trailer at 9,914 with 228Km, not bad at all. Second pass exactly the same, on Sunday we tried for something more but the transmission didn't had the same thoughts so we couldn't race any more, the good news anyway is that the car works in general, the engine screams no ending, the car is driven until the 400 meters with one hand, no shaking, nothing. We hope for some better results on the next race in about a month or so
Walter we don't know yet as we hadn't any time to make more pulls, it was already Friday 20.00 oclock and on Saturday morning was the race...we'll have the time to check more carefully until the next race
a small video of our second 9,9 pass, in the same video our competitors!!! first car in Greece of the small categories under 9secs, enjoy..

How could that be better? a 'nine' of the trailer!!
Well done indeed!!

Hi Walter
you're absolut right, I meant that we could have saved the gearbox, and that would be even better, but anyway we have time to learn from our mistakes. Another video of the first 9,9 pass and some nice photo from the greekdragster.info site, enjoy

Hello BB
well the engine was fresh, we had only 5 or 6 pulls on the dyno and then directly on the races, I was anxious to see what happened with the heads, well nothing happened but I wanted to check to be sure..

Hello Udo
this track is located in Polykastro, it's about 50km north-west from Thessaloniki where we're located. It's actually a small airplane field and its total length is 1080m, it's the best one we have currently here in Greece with authorization for races and it's glued for about 250m, from time to time the organizers still make it even better. The next race is in Serres circuit, 120Km north-east from Thessaloniki, this is the only authorized race circuit in Greece but unfortunately not good for drag racing as it is short (about 800m) and slippery. There is also a drag race track in Peloponhsos -south from Athens- which is all new and is prepared now to be authorized and another one air plane field in insula Creta south at all. So not many choices but anyway, we try to do the job with what we have, so most races are held in Polykastro (2) and Serres (2) which are the most complete ones

Hello
until last year there was only one person racing with a 1302 and a watercooled golf engine, his best after some 10 years of racing was 10,4, from last year that we compete we showed them how it's done with an aircooled engine. So for this year it will be him who's coming back on races on September, us and another guy with a 69 with still a watercooled Golf engine so totaly three. For next year will be also a 64 that I have with the mouse engine I got from Johannes and also my street car with T1 2386 and 253Hp, so totally 5 cars, we miss another one to form our own category, well until then some patience..maybe another one appears

JIMP,
A little off topic, is still the world fastest BMW 3 series in Greece? The orange 7.834 ET that was made in Norway? I remember seeing some movies of it from Greece and I do believe they struggled a little bit with the traction.
Anyway, thanks for the great race report. It is, as mentioned above, really nice to see what is going on around the world. Good luck and drive safe!

Some update
it seems like we did an almost perfect job!, only one of the eight teeth remained intact, now we have to use our second box until we repair this one, the second one seems much much stronger but don't know exactly who built it, used to be an ex Mica Mansukoshki box, maybe he did it?

Dimitrios
the stronger one
Also some in car video, sorry you don't see the track, we just

a small in car video, actuall video until 3min, we forgot to close the camera. Sorry the track isn't visible but we tried to use it as a logger!! this is why we see only the dash. I really count on your feedback as I mentioned we don't have actuall real race experience

Thanks for the video Dimitrios, looks and sounds good.Just one advise, try doing the burnout in third gear. You get the heat up a lot quicker, and the engine don't hit the limiter that easy. What clutch do you use?

Hello Stian
thanks for the advice, I have watched you in videos doing burn out in third, but to be honest never asked why, now is more obvious. About the clutch we use the usual black magic with stage 1 kep (or Kep 2 with some shimming, it depends). Any different recomendation on the clutches?

Sounds good.My small experience is that if you slip and use the black magic a lot before launch (like staging with linelock on) ,you build up heat and it can get really agressive-like R&P killer..
Also check your kep pressure plate with a ruler when you have the engine out, they tend to bend like a cup when heated up a lot.

Thanks a lot for the information, you know if the same happens also with the flywheel or this one is more robust and remains relatively straight?
Also another question what method do you prefer for the measurement of setting the flywheel pressure?

Using a black magic and stage 1 on a turbo like yours is very difficult . I would grind the pressure plate after the testing if it has no cracks .
Ask Peter Köhman he has a lot of experience with this combo

Flywheel is normally no problem.Only when you start to move metal on the clutch surface, you need to grind it to remove the hot spots and get it even again.
You adjust the clutch with pressure setting via tourqe wrench.Put a flywheel lock on your flywheel install a input shaft with a socket welded on the end so you can check slipage with your tourque wrench.I used approx 170-180 lbs on my car.
