I had a great time, despite Jeremy's trusty 1915 packing up! That car was the coolest thing in town when I was growing up and first getting into VW's. Still is! Ragtop oval with a convertible W decklid, "big" motor, and polished 5's. It was the car! But that's another story...

So we were driving along, just passing through Banning (from Phoenix). Motor was running flawlessly as it did on the way to Vegas, The Classic, and Bug-In last year, and many trips before that. All the sudden we hear some expensive sounds(!), a little bucking and kicking, and a good amount of smoke in the rear view mirror! We all went silent, and I motion for Jeremy to take the next exit. Car was still running, but down on power, obviously missing on a cylinder. I said, "I see a stroker motor in your furure!." We poked around a little bit, pulled the valve covers off and all looked fine in there. Jeremy fired it back up (some more smoke and flames out the exhaust!), Slinger put his hand over #2 and there was no difference in idle Sad Tried pulling the plug and limping it the rest of the way, but as you can see from the picture, that plug was there to stay.

Well Jim I sorry I didnt call yah.  It really wasnt planned out and kinda just happened.  I picked up Fabs at Greg Bunch's cool house in Orange, drove the 55 to Newport Beach went North to HB. Fabs had his 1st fish taco, of course while looking at the ocean while eating it.  He bought a couple must have shirts at the famous Jacks Surf Shop then we headed to Newport beach and he dunked his feet in the mighty (cold) Pacific.  From there we went south on PCH through Corona Del Mar, Laguna Beach, Aliso beach, Salt Creek, etc..
made it as far south as Dana Point and popped into Turq's.  The bar in the harbour that John Wayne used to hang out in. Chock full of nautical goodies with fish tanks in the ceiling and a killer view of the harbour.  One last place to go.... ended up at the Swallows Inn.  This place may be the oldest bar in all of Orange County (not even sure).  It is littered with all kinds of posters, girls underwear, and HUGE bra's nailed to the ceiling.  The word has it that as recent as 20 years ago, guys on horses would ride their horse into the bar order a drink and then ride out.  Throwing peanut shells on the floor looking at all the porn in the restroom walls.  It must seem a world away.  We laughed and laughed.  Fabs REALLY liked the bathrooms and tossing peanut shells on the floor.  Sorry Jim it was'nt really planned, just happened.
