That ticks so many boxes for me, I love it. Any more details on it?? Ive seen a few pics of it before, but know nothing about it.
It belongs to Russ Welch. The restoration took approx. five years due mostly to Russ' declining health. Dave Galassi helped considerably with the build. Here's a few more pics... The picture of Greg Aronson looking in the window brings back an interesting story. We had driven the car over to Sarge's for a get together and everyone wanted to go for a ride, including Greg. So, we idled out onto the main drag and at the light, I jump on it and row through the gears. As I back off the throttle, Greg simply says two things.............Mahaffey's car was louder, and change the idles to 65's. One answer I can't vouch for, but the other was right on the money. When I worked for Russ in the 80's, he was out racing Class 10 1600 cars in offroad events quite often during the year with another racer named Roger Mortensen. Little did I know until that day at Sarge's that Greg also campaigned a Class 10 car and raced against Russ back in the 80's. They were old friends. Not much Greg hasn't done...............or Russ for that matter. We're hoping to make a few passes on that car and the Pepco car (back on the road again!) at Bugin next month. Should be a lot of fun! Am I the only person in the world that doesn't like the Hammered Inc faux split? The chop is beautiful, the workmanship is superb, but I just don't like the overall concept. I don't think it needed the split window adding. I'm not a fan of the whole satin paint thing, and the stance is wrong. Personally, I'd have kept it as a threefold ragtop oval window bug, but still done the chop, shiny paint in something obscure and dark, amd fitted it up with a set of Ercos. Russ and Marc's cars are more my cup of tea, and exactly what I'd got planned for mine...
