thought i'd post up a few photos

Been looking around the car and digging a little. the car is surprisingly original to the moody spec, a testament to the original build all them years ago

according to the log book the car was originally white something that shows up in these photos

the blue paint is under both the rear wings and the flip front as shown here, proving these are the wings and front the car had in the early 90's

the photos show the paint residue left when the car had the paneling painted pink

the front must have had a little pink painted on at the same time

this one I'm not to sure about but the rear lid although wrong for the 91 onwards car may be off the earlier version as there's blue paint on this fiberglass lid

the wheels are dated  06 93 so could be original to the car
[ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ]

looks like drum brakes were good enough back then  Wink
[ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ]

these look to be the same wheely bars as shown in some earlier photos on this thread but I was told that these were widened to fit the subaru engine the car ran with most recently
[ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ]
this also shows in the chassis

Hey, nowt wrong with being agricultural.  Quite sopistimacated these days I'll have you know.  Wink

Looks like an interesting re-build you found though Ron.  But is it gonna be true to the original car, or your own style?

Good pics Ron, obviously had a good poke about!
It must have had a feature in volksworld at some point, have you seen it?
Would be good for some detail shots maybe.
Cheers,

I dug out the feature the other day. Under the front is very like the moody mark 1 but its a bit hard to see the rear as its filled with engine but the feature did give you some nice details

the main upgrade is the cage and the rear fire wall. the cage is tec'ed to 10.00 and the new firewall replaced the original when they were doing the works

the only other addition is a dash which has been installed but thats an easy fix as the aluminum one is still behind. It was originally cut out with a few gauges installed in the aluminum dash panel

Ron, if I remember right it had a one piece back end - wings lid and valance? Certainly wings and valance anyway, so they may well have been cut seperately when the car got painted black. I used to talk to Scott Evison quite a bit when I raced with the VWDRC, and as far as I remember, all he did to the car back then was paint it (and engine, obviously). Later on he put a Mendeola in it, is that still there?
It does seem to have a different rear wing to previously, but I don't know if that was a late Moody change or an early Slush Puppie one. I think it's the same wing it always had as long as I've known the car.

Neil

the later version had a one piece back end with a fiberglass " w " rear lid all bonded in one

Scott changed this to a four piece set up as it was easier to take off on his own, this was done sometime in his ownership

Moody version one had a semi w lid which I think was separate and this is how it featured in volksworld with the early less aerodynamic front end . At this time there was also no rear wing

regards Ron

Found some pics on the VWDRC website:

http://www.vwdrc.com/v/History/?g2_page=14
There are 10 pictures of Moody, plus one in the background of John Mahers car, and three of Slush Puppie.

http://www.vwdrc.com/v/History/?g2_page=23

This one of the two Moodys shows that the later wing DID go on with it still in blue paint:

Hope these help!

Thinking about it, the one up against Still Moody might actually be when Neil Venners (Paul "Botch" Venners brother) owned it - I'm fairly sure he had the car at some stage. I thought it was a different car that Neil ran (look at the flip front) but it's the same rear wing as Slush Puppie. Might be worth giving Botch a call, he's a mine of information about Uk drag racing!

Well chaps

I've had long chat last night and although its been a great privilege to have owned the car for a very short while its going to go

Firstly without some major sacrifices I don't have the time or sufficient funds to build a 9 second engine for it and to be honest unless it was running 9's I'd be doing the car a disservice

Secondly although I would like to go racing I think  I would like build my own car, rather than race what will always be someones car

thanks for the kind words on the thread and I hope you'll see it out sometime back in its former glory

Regards Ron

Sounds like things have worked out ok!
I also have 3 projects on the go...... I don't really have the time or money for one! But whenever something interesting
pops up I start thinking Hmmmm..... Where can I put that?
I'm beginning to learn my limits though..... Kinda.

Well, at least they don't have to change the log book... Cheesy Shame you're selling it mate, it would have been a great race car for you, but it's going to be in good hands now!
