Our favorite friday-gasser-publisher JHU recently brought pictures of the bronze east coast gasser "Small Wonder".. Is it a restoration of an old, genuine car...or a modern day built nostalgia gasser inspired by the famed Wonderbug ?

I remember it as being a slow sale on teh Samba - where is it now?

And more importantly...will it be at SCC 2006 ?

Hi All,

nice to see new pictures of the car!
Very cool, as I'm actually printing some european pics of the car for the previous owner.
Special thanks to Fabian ;-)

About the car, I bought it in autumn 2004, and it arrived in Belgium in february 2005.
Kobus get the first pics (before me!) of the car in Europ; It was in ANTWERP port, in the container at the port. I really enjoy them! Thanks Guy!

The car was originaly built in the 70's; I've a pic from CAR CRAFT dated 02/71. It was advertised by the builder John Harrison , an Imported car and first Empi dealer in New England. At this Time, roof wasn't top chopped... So it semms the work was done after, but when exactly, I don't know... I'm either searching all information about the life of the car; if someone get some, please let me know.

Gusty (from Luxemburg) friendly had a look to his vintage Hot VW's collection, and did'nt find anything.

The motor is based on a 82 SPG roller crank. Pistons and cylinder are NOS Mahle 92's that came in the deal. As I'm (actually, I hope it'll change ;-) ) a very poor mechanic, I gave the motor to a french specialist called Slide Perfomrmance. Heads were redone (3 angle refreshed)
I took the motor "running" at the shop and put it in the car with my friend Christophe (which is actually waiting the arrival of his own VW gasser those days).
Now, I have to find an Italian 48 IDA, as one I get did'nt run. I'll try to dissambled it another Time, and clean it with industrial method.

I hope I'll be able to made the car "ready for the strip" for DDD4! I'll do my best to do it!

Jérôme

Hmm, I believe that roller cranks are not recomended for drag racing??
