Roger Grago

September 04, 2010, 11:31:31 am »
Just been told of this. My thoughts go out to Teri and the girls:
Roger Grago is a much loved fellow Porsche/VW enthusiast here in Orange County. Many of you many know him from his involvement in R Gruppe; working at Newport Porsche dealer as a service writer, or simply as a regular fixture at Cars and Coffee. Unfortunately, Roger underwent brain surgery on September 2nd at Saddleback Hospital and is in very serious condition. We are all very worried about him as is his wife and three children. These are tough times for everyone and particularly tough on his family.
We have decided to organize a special brunch to help raise money for his family.
The details are:
Where: AutoKennel
1974 Charle Street
Costa Mesa, CA 92627
When: Saturday, September 11th, 2010
From 9:30am to 12:30pm
What: We will be providing a brunch and are asking for a $50 donation. Cash or Check is fine.
There will be an organized caravan leaving from Cars and Coffee at 9:00am that morning and heading to the AutoKennel. You are more than welcome to join along to show support.
RSVP: We would like to get a head count for food, but it is not mandatory. Please rsvp to Paul Kramer at 714-335-4911 or
paul@autokennel.com
There will be details on our website as well as a map:
www.AutoKennel.com
If you can not attend but would still like to make a donation, please contact Paul Kramer.
Please feel free to invite any and all car enthusiasts whether they know Roger or not. We need to circle the wagons around a fellow automotive enthusiast who has given much of his time and energy to our community.

It was surgery for a brain tumour. What i don't know is if it was scheduled or an emergency situation.

It was not scheduled, he was taken to the hospital with a bad headache.
Surgery was same day.
Hopefully they’ll find it was a benign tumor.
Amazing 2 days after brain surgery he is awake and smiling already and may go home Monday.
I'm sure the recovery will take weeks and two benefits have been organized to help his family and Roger.
The brunch above and a track day too.
Updates here…

Here is the link to the track day info.

If we could get 15 Cal Looks they could have their own run session.
Any Cal Look owners that want to particapate in the benefit track day for Roger drop Ray a note.

Roger Grago Track Day
________________________________________
Everyone:
The emphasis of the track day has changed DRAMATICALLY
Instead of a small intimate group of guys, 13-15 @$300, just pay for the track. We have changed gears.
We are now going to try to get as many cars as possible to try to have a profit. ALL money after the track expenses have been paid, will be going to Roger Grago.
We have a chance to make alot of money for Roger, IF more people attend.
New price is $200.00. Instead of a rebate, I am giving Roger the difference.
So, if you want to go, and can afford the $200.00, PLEASE attend!!
I hope to have 50-60 cars and give Roger ALOT of money

While this is a very serious thing to find out, it is survivable. I had a young woman in our office go into the hospital with headaches and ended up staying for the same thing. They took out an apple sized tumor and she is still with us today. That was 6 years ago. We will put Roger in our prayers too for speedy recovery.

Hi Geoff soon, I'll post details.
Today copy and paste fm the organizer...
This brunch is FOR all VW/Porsche/car friends of Roger, after cars and coffee please join the caravan to the brunch/auction.
Roger Grago Benefit Brunch
Roger Grago is a much loved fellow Porsche/VW enthusiast here in Orange County. Many of you many know him from his involvement in R Gruppe; working at Newport Porsche dealer as a service writer, or simply as a regular fixture at Cars and Coffee. Unfortunately, Roger underwent brain surgery on September 2nd at Saddleback Hospital and is in very serious condition. We are all very worried about him as is his wife and three children. These are tough times for everyone and particularly tough on his family.
Roger has fallen victim to something many of us can relate to....the economy. In his struggle to provide for his family, Roger has moved from one job to another in an industry (automotive) that has been hit hard. In the process, he has been applying for new insurance with his new employer and unfortunately, the timing could not be worse. Roger is in a situation that many of us know could happen to anyone: Huge medical crisis happens and no health insurance. This is a plight that has affected many Americans and people close to us.
Yes, we need as much financial assistance as we can get. However, we need more than just that. Our car community that knows Roger is very fortunate. We are all very smart and successful in whatever we do that allows us to afford this passion we share. We need to tap our resources to figure out how to make one of our own protected. If Roger knows that his family will be ok, he will be able to focus on beating this thing. In the end, his family and us need him to be around for a long, long time. Please be creative in your help.
We have decided to organize a special brunch to help raise money for his family.
The details are:
Where: AutoKennel/Veloce Gruppe
1974 Charle Street
Costa Mesa, CA 92627
When: Saturday, September 11th, 2010
From 9:30am to 12:30pm
What: We will be providing a brunch and are asking for a $50 donation.
Cash or Check is fine.
There will be an organized caravan leaving from Cars and Coffee at 9:00am that morning and heading to the AutoKennel. You are more than welcome to join along to show support.

Really bad news. I've known Roger since about 1970 back in his DGVA days. Wish him a speedy recovery and very happy to contribute to helping out his family.

This is a quote from the early911s registry site:
"I just got back from visiting Roger in the hospital. He is back in a regular room and really looking great. Outside of the bandage on his head, you would never know. He still has that warm smile and twinkle in his eye. It was pretty quiet and we just chatted about car stuff for an hour. He is anxious to get home and fingers crossed, he might go home today. It is miraculous how well he is doing. He still has a VERY long road ahead, but if anyone can beat this, Roger can. His spirits are very high and he was very emotional when he expressed his gratitude to all of you out there. It makes a difference."
