Wow, does that bring back memories... That was a bad deal for Greg and Tar Babe, but I sure forgot how much damage it took that night at OCIR. I guess now that Russell knows what about that damage, he will want to sell it cheap... Looks like that heart taillight took the brunt of the guardrail bash. Between that crash, the the trailer towing midhap, Tar Babe went back to Beckers more than a few times for touch ups.

Hey Deano, do you remember a guy from La Habra, yellow late model Squareback, named Gary Peterson? He was a member of Marc Buehler's and Ed Craig's DRA... He thinks he remembers you, and he said he certainly remembered your '67... Anyway, he lives about 5 blocks from me, and that is where that photo of the Tar Babe came from. And the guy that owned Bug Engine in La Habra, not only is my neighbor, but also my partner @ work... guess Sarge Edmiston used to work for my neighbor...small world !

       The story behind the Tar Babe crash,   Greg Aronson and Mike Liebey built lowering spindles and added low profile slicks for the front end of the car, the night of the crash was the first time running with the new setup, through the lights at the top end under deceleration the front end dropped ,the tire on one side rubbed and was cut on the fenders lip causing a split second lockup of the one front tire, upsetting the car enough to spin across the track and into the guardrail . Later when the car was being repaired they needed one heart tail light assembly ,I contributed to the cause and gave them a pair Id had for years, Ron and Greg had done so very much for me it was the  least I could do. I was working on my chop top at the shop ,( F&A on Howell street) when they returned from OCIR that night, everyone was trying to see the upside because of what could have happened, but still , not a good night at all. If Gasser Garage found white paint when restoring the tail lights they are the ones used to repair the car,   just a little history.                 Keith Goss

    Richard, hope to see you again too, I was hoping to make it to Sac.this weekend but cannot.                                                                          Deano, odd isnt it how a bad experience can change things in so many ways, you probably talk to the guys more often than I do, if I left out any details or am wrong about anything, please correct me, I dont want to be a revisionist, if I remember correctly Jim Holmes was also there that night.  I remember when they went racing in Mexico and came home without Tar Babe how disappointed I was, that car was such a big influence. To me the Tar Babe was and is Americas Most Beautiful Volkswagen, just seeing Greg Aronson sitting in the seat of the Tar Babe at the reunion made every one of the 850miles I drove worth it.      KG

The only thing that makes me doubt is I wanted to keep the nice red "Kadron" sticker... but on the left "Made in Brasil", that's not very cool...  Cheesy

So, I think I'll paint it in white, now I have to find an hight temperature white paint  Grin

Cool, that looks a little different from the usual Kadron glasspacks I've seen... the two-bolt flange is standard for those K-dog headers, but the tip is usually shorter and fatter (larger diameter).

As a young guy walking thru the staging lanes at the early Bug-In's, I recall seeing 125 Pirelli CA 67's on the front of some of the gasser's.
I had to make do with my old 135 Michelin X stops.

Got a set of CSP beam stiffeners in yesterday, and just finished installing them. VERY nice product. I was surprised to see how substantial they were. Impressed!
