maybe it could be an idea to have a post about orginal VW parts that have stood the test of time and tune and are still the best parts to use today. i know a lot of then are, but maybe it is good to say why it is a good part and what use it is for. especially in high(er) performance engines or more 'cal-look' applications.
as an example: the original harder trannymount rubbers (from a bus) work out just fine in most applications and offer better support then the stock beetle ones.

I will sum it up for you;

Most original VW parts are far superior to any aftermarked shit.

That`s it... basically.

that is exactly why this post was created! you are very much right on that.
So the extra intention of it all is to make people aware of what part works for what purpose (because you tested it yourself) and make callooks 'peoples cars' again and not a miss-match of an aftermarket catalog or two

I would love this thread, keeps me learning about the interchangable parts that work and fit.

Only if we could still buy those GOOD PARTS, life would be easy. Being in the repair/parts business i have to deal with this every day. I buy as much German parts as i can, but its getting harder to do this.

Could be also interesting to have a thread about aftermarket/repros parts to avoid... (crappy, or even dangerous parts !)

I'll be reusing the original case, crank, flywheel, rods, heads, crank gears, nuts & bolts, pretty much everything i can on my GTV engine! It will be no rocketship, but I am very happy that I am able to retain all of that German quality Smiley

I only use genuine fanshrouds, valve covers and tin on my engines. The only aftetmarket tin that I use is the breast plates with no heater holes but they still need a bunsh of trimming to fit properly.

Yes, pretty much anything original is better. I like engine tin, alternator stands, distributor clamps, valve covers and any body parts.

What about the Mex/Brazilian OEM stuff?  Like CB Perf sells.  All good?  All bad?  I need to buy a complete cooling/charging system, and
would prefer to learn from someone else's mistakes.
