Just been reading that too, very cool. I wonder how many times Mr Richie has enquired about Diego's garage contents?

It is now official, the Lightning Bug II is on its way back to California.... The Schley Brothers are, once again, the proud owners of a most famous VW gasser. The car came complete with most of its original 2180cc engine that ran the first ever, ten second pass....., and get this, the original Porsche transaxle has NEVER been removed from the car, since it was delivered to Diego Febles, back in February 1973. This gasser will sit along side Schley's restored dragster, which is currently being lettered at McPeak's shop in Riverside...

WOW! Very good news to hear of, Deano. Thanks. I can't believe that aspect regarding the Porsche transmission. Too cool!

Here is an up date. The Schleys loaded up the Lightning Bug and extra parts into a container yesterday in San Juan. That container is headed for Jacksonville, Florida, where it will be off-loaded onto either a truck, or freight train, and shipped to Costa Mesa. Just about everything was found, except the original wheelie bars, they appear to be MIA.
The plan is to have this car completely done, painted (and running), along with the Lightning Bug dragster for next year's Bug-In, late April/early May 2011. Photos to come next week....

Here's a few photos taken back a few months ago, in Diego's garage. This is the original 2180cc used to run the first 10-second run in H/Gas.....
