It would Have To Be The Recreation Of The Old School Cal Look From 1975 It Seems that in 1975 The Cal Look Bug Club Scene was Really Hot Big Motors, Fast Steet Cars , Street Races, Club Rallys. It Was Just So Much Fun Having a Cal Look That Did Not Cost an Arm and Leg To Build and You could go out on a friday night and whip some V8's Those were the Good Ole Days That Will Most Likey be Gone Forever  Just Seeing Dyno Don Making an Ass out of him Self Was enough to keep you Laughing for a week after the Rally was over...

Having the energy to go out into the gargage and work on your VW until the wee hours of the morning, and then get up the next morning, and go to work (perky and chipper!).

Let's just say there wasn't a lot of pavement other then the "track".....the road from the "main gate" to the parking area and pits was a mile long rutted out dirt one-laner.  Just something about taking a clean car there....   One year we had the races there (DKP Drag Day) and were allowed to spend the night in the pits.  It was plenty cold and tough to try and sleep.  The next morning, several of us club guys were up at the main gate BSing....everyone freezing.  Well, we lit a trash can on fire and started warming up until the trash burn't up....what to do?  There was an old wooden Carlsbad sign laying off to the side in the weeds...soon, the fire was crackling plenty good!  About this time, Larry Grismer (the guy who ran the show at the track for years) pulls up in his truck and comes over to warm his hands a bit.  When he glanced in the fire and saw his old sign, KAAA-BOOOM!!  I thought we were going to get 86'd for SURE!  Grin

Sarge great story. But, you should probably know that when CarlsBAD finally closed down, the two plywood Carlsbad Raceway signs that were right in the middle of the track (yellow, about 4-ft long each), were sold to Don Prudhomme for a mere $10,000!
