Stock 67' long axle to 66' short axle, bearing cap. can I use the same 67' cap or is it reqiured to use another?

When I changed from long to short, I changed everything. The bearing caps are not interchangeable. Change the tube, axel, houseing and cap.

I believe the early caps are deeper where the bearing fits in.
I had to purchase another set to 'get it done' on my current project ... ended up going with new billet units, but that's another story.
