This was a great day at the Schley Brother's house, as they just completed restoring their old dragster. So, to help celebrate the firing of the engine for the first time (in the rail), Paul and Mark invited a few friends over, including Rick Sadler who built the T-4 engine. As you can see, this car, once again, is awesome!
And yes, the Lightning Bug gasser sits in the garage waiting its turn for a complete restoration.

Wow...this really brings back some memories. I clicked these shots at OCIR at a bug-in...when I last saw it. Unreal. I forgot how many years ago I took these shots. Paul and Mark would probably remember as the Stutt Bee was parked next to the dragster in the pits when I took these. Sorry for the graininess of the shots. I pulled them from old Ecktachrome slides I have.

I will have to give Mark a call and see if he would like to have a TREUHAFT sticker to put on the car as shown on some of the old pictures.

Beautiful work! Car looks awesome... now I have a point of reference when the argument comes up of whether a Type 4 can suitably go fast in drag racing Makes me excited to get my own 2.0 liter built for the 2011 season.

Thursday was one of those days that you have to pinch yourself to realize just how cool this all was. For all the days you sit in traffic, or a dentist chair that just plain sucks, and then you enjoy an afternoon like this. Mark went out and got us all Double-Doubles from In-N-Out Burgers, and then we went upstairs and watched two hours of home movies from when they raced the Lightning Bug, on the road with the Deano gasser. Hearing the dragster's massive Type 4 engine's throttle rap, watching and smelling the smoke coming off the newly painted exhaust, and seeing Paul and Mark smile like they were back in 1975! I think I just got my Christmas present a little early.

wow!!!! Very nice and I know that car from Hot VW in the late seventies when we were building our Pank dragster. I have some really small and B&W pictures that said very little about the details of the car. Looks very nice.
I can also relate to this moment a little bit extra as I am projecting my own restoration of the PANK dragster with original engine but automatic transaxle instead of the 901 Porsche 5 speed we used. This really inspired me. Thanks for sharing.

just reading the old report with the dragster and reading this the dragster had a set of 58 ida weber side draft (pict1&2) ,why they don't go this way and at that time the exhaust was below the engine and took out below the gearbox to the left(pict3) that engine is the original 2529cc on the picture 1&2 we can see ron fleming ,ron was helping the schley bros with this project
