Anybody out there have tips for how to access mixture screws on DRLA Dellortos if one doesn't have windows cut into the side walls of the engine bay? Just weighing options, as it doesn't look very viable (at least not easy, by any stretch!) to access those screws without having at least a pair of drilled holes in the sides of the engine compartment.

You can usually just reach in and turn them by hand. This may not work as well in a really early car but works just fine on my 66 and it did on my old 67. If not you can usually reach in with an 8mm wrench.

If you have the hex head idle mix screws, you can access them without hacking holes in your car. Reach from under the carb with an 8mm socket. I have a ¼ drive 8mm socket with a short piece of VW smog hose on it to increase it's dia to make it easier to turn.

I bought a 8 mm (About $10.00) ratcheting box end and shortened it to what I needed ....works great..!

Every pair of Dellortos I have seen (And I`ve seen plenty) has had hex head mixture screws. Like I said, just reach in and turn them with your fingers.

Good info to have, guys. I appreciate. I was going to mock the carbs up in the car before going anywhere near drilling or cutting holes, so it looks like I may not really need to go through the rigamarole of doing that. Without the carbs on the engine, it's tough to envision just where things will be at final installation time.
