I am building a motor that will have a Porsche style shroud. Do I install the alternator first with the main brace and than the shroud around it or do I install the shroud and than the alternator and brace. Also how is the shroud held in place over the heads since there is no screws to hold down on the heads or is part of the brace holding them. I would like to see various styles of engine with the Porsche shroud to have an idea.

    Thanks

Frenchy, you might check out CSP's website for a complete build-up on their kit. (English w/ pictures). I will do their kit on my engine soon. http://www.csp-shop.de/technik/pdf/deeng/17703.pdf
Hope this helps a little.
Regards,
Harry

Patrick,

Is this your notch?  Nice.  Do you have any additional pictures of the cooling system prior to installing the motor in the car?

I ran this setup on a T1 for a short time.
It was a mess to make the shroud fit correctly. It was an old model of shroud build years ago, new ones are sure easier to install properly Undecided

And some others  Wink

First the fan with alternator then the brace and then polyesterpart.
Mine is a T4 but isn't different to a T1.

Good luck!

I can check...probably not. That was back before the ease of the camera phone. It is sealed fairly well from top and bottom. May be able to get a pic later if you can wait till spring...I am planning on bringing the car out of the mothballs.........Playing with Chops!

Patrick,

What brand do you have on your set-up?  Does it have a filler neck for the oil?

Are they empty or do they have internal fins to distribute the air? Or is it not necessary? I have heard that they hardly push any air to #3 and #4:

What type of bracket do you have holding the magneto in place. The regular magneto brace will not fit between the fan and the mag not enough room. Can you show me how you are holding the mag in place or are you using a billet base type as the original ones to hold it.

   Thanks

Lower big bracket only. Will be redesigned for re-release. I got the shroud from Geoff P many years ago. Ken Jansen here locally has a shroud he sells, or used to, that has provisions so you can run an MSD distrib w/o issues and a type4 cooler.

Patrick,

Do you know if your friend is still making his 911 style shroud? What is the quality of the piece.  The CSP unit seems to have the best fit and finish.

Mr Raby did test several houses and by far the worst was the empty Porsche style ones. They distribute a lot of air and most of it goes to cylinder #1. But what I have been told is that they push so much air that there will be enough anyway. I do not buy this at all. A easy test is to spin the fan up to speed and check the difference in the plug holes.

If I decide to run one I will do a lot of work on creating directional vanes for directing air flow.  How well the bottom of the engine is sealed has a lot to do with how well the air flows over the correct area of the barrels and cylinder heads.  I did a ton of work on my most recent engine project just correcting all the stock tin to ensure that it was directed where it was supposed to be going.

The air loss around the stock tin as well as the aftermarket pieces is where all the inefficiencies are.  Even on the dog house coolers most of the air goes around the cooler instead of through it if you don't seal up the cooler properly.

Can someone show me a picture of the linkage set up you have mounted at the rear of the shroud. I am using a CSP linkage set up but missing some parts. I am using 48 IDA'S and also need a picture of the arms that are mounted on the webbers for the linkage to bolt on. From what I can see I have to put these small bracket down ward for the linkage to work. So if anyone is using 48 IDA'S and using a CSP linkage show me pictures of your set up.

     Thanks

Mark Prosser runs a CSP setup in the AutoTechniks bay, doesn't get hot, In fact on the 900 mile round trip to Bitburg last year he was more concerned about the gearbox oil getting warm!

Setup is a 2332 with 48idf's and 10.5:1 compression/FK10 cam Smiley
