there are a lot of type 181 at where i am currently stationed, Indonesia.

I found this yesterday at a local show, i suspect it is a 181 housing.

Although there are many things here, finding a shroud proved to be a little difficult since most have been modified.

i wouldnt have got it if not because i think it could be a 181 shroud, condition wasnt that great, but still fixable, but then i cant argue with USD30

That doubler plate on the coil mount is one giveaway to a 181 fan housing (but not all Thing housings had them). But looking inside is the best way to make sure you have the real deal, and no someone's made up one.

Weird, i'd have 5 of them and none had the plate at the coil.

Glenn, I believe this was done to prevent the coil from breaking away from the housing. We've all seen cracks on any fan housing around the coil mounts...These particular housings could have been a "late" thing..... Tongue

it could be. IIRC, 181s were used as military vehicles in here and also Thailand. Back home where I am from which is about 2 hours flight away, we have probably less than 10 181s in the whole country.

i paid approx USD30 for it. i have always wanted a mint unit like Glenn's, but most cars here have the heater snorkles cut and welded shut, and cars those days were treated rough, so i am still looking.  Grin

if i get a mint unit, i will cut this open just to see the inside...LOL

Many wanna be 181 shrouds are from industrial engines.
Those are the same without openings and so on. I have one laying around from a scraped idustrial engine.

Greetz!

I have two that are unmolested (one in use in my car) and neither of them had the coil plate.
