My latest addition is a new Autometer Monster tach, you know, the usual stuff Wink and there is a small problem with combining it with a old ignition system from a stock 1200 engine.

The needle is bouncing up and down like crazy! Looks like it can't wait for EBI  Grin Cheesy

Is this the combo with autometer and the old dizzy/coil? or just a bad ground?

Anyone with similar combo (with 010?) with this problem?

Make sure the tach wire running back to the coil is clear of any spark plug wires.

Have you tried checking your dwell angle with a meter?  I have a 009 with points and like 46-48 degrees of dwell...plus, you can see on the meter if your distributor is shot (dwell bouncing around...should be a steady needle).  Make sure the batteries in your test instrument are good, too (I could tell you stories  Roll Eyes).  The other thing that comes to mind is the 12v power wire for the tach...make sure it's on the switched side of the fuse box.  I had mine on the hot side for a while (tach's ON all the time...not good).  Good luck!

Thanks Sarge, mine is on the 'switched' side, only needs a fuse in between..

Make sure you buy the right fuses. I bought the wrong holders for the slow acting types..  Lips Sealed

Going to get some fast-acting 4 Amps + holder, and material for a mounting bracket soon...  Cool

Hope I mine don't suffer from the "dancing needle disease"...
