My cal look '63
«

A few people of here have seen my thread on VZi, i thought i may aswell put it on here as i on usually lurk
Here we go then
I bought my car with no engine or MOT and i had not had a dub for a good few years so it was a good chanllenge.
Anyways, this is how i bought it
It had been restored about 16 years previous and has only had 3 owners, The original purchaser and the guy who had it restored, then the guy i bought it off hadn't had the legal docs (V5), so it only shows as 2 previous owners
.
It has had a great restoration and alot of money spent on it and is looking well for 16 years.
I got an old motor in and bought a narrowed beam and run it around like this for a while
Which i was happy with ( don't ask me why i painted the drums red, cos' i have no idea
)
Then i started to think about where i wanted to go with it, i chose the cal look route
.
So i changed the wheels and started to lok for a good motor.
On and off with the bumpers, definately off now though

I saw an add on Volkszone last for this motor, so i went and bought it
It's a 1776 with this spec
8 dowel crank and flywheel
Scat 3/8 I beams with ARP bolts
C45 camshaft
90.5 P and Bs
heads 40X37 mild port with twin springs
Compression 10.0:1
Scat 1.25 rockers
1.5 exhaust
009 dizzy
Flame thrower coil
40 webers with 32 venturis
I bought it with out carbs and fitted the webers myself
Then at christmas last year i started to do this
I wanted my new motor to sit in a nice engine bay
All measured up nicely , now time for the new side trays and inspection windows

I had to take the motor out again for a problem with the clutch, i've had to order a load of uprated clutch shaft equipment
the original ones i put it have snapped and have been rattly round my new kennedy pressure plate, i was probably a bit naive to they would work really.
What a mess, oh well you live and learn, just waiting on all the new stuff to arrive now and i should be back on the road.
That's about it for now, hopefully a respray just in time for Bugjam this year, i can enter the show and go then

That's what i say dude, i was a bit naive to think it work, i've never done anything like this before and just assumed it would work
, i didn't know that there was a difference till it broke and i had to do some research.

Well i have had the car running and running fast
,
Two days later and this is where i'm at
The spider gears were shredded and it looks like there is a crack in the diff.
I have got hold of a GT box and it is having a heavy duty side plate fitted today.
I should have it ready for Bugjam at least, i've got 16 evenings and 4 full days as i'm busy the rest of the time.

That was all painted in my garage, we have since flatted it back with 1200 to get rid of any crap and runs, it is now as flat as anything
The wings are all now prepped and primed ready for the spray booth.
Here's the car as it is now....
It's going on the VZi display at the volksworld show so I gotta get my finger out
It will only have a small motor in though till I can afford to get one built, although I am saving

Looking good
Where did you get the repair sections for the rear inner wings btw?
Cheers,
