Sneak Peak.... Slumbering Menace

I name is Paul and been in the VW scene back in the 80’s when Cal look was painting your VW in crazy colors with graphics, tinting the windows, installing sounds systems and totally dressing up your motor to make a statement. Well I was lucky enough my Dad would not allow me to do that to his original 1970 Bug so I did lower the front by removing the small leaf springs and putting on Chrome stock rims with Porsche Nipple hubcaps, and installing Dual K-dogs with an thunderbird dual quiet pack. We still have this car today and when I eventually import the car to Holland it will be a sleeper...

Speaking of Sleeper… I want to introduce you to “Slumber Menace!” She is my 1963 Karmann Ghia hard top that coming to the Netherlands this summer after being stored at my parents garage in So. Cal for 21 years!!! I painted her in a pastel blue off a Porsche 911; again it was still the 80’s/90’s. When I bought here in 1989 she was a true Patina, but in those days it was not cool like today! So we strip her to bare metal and rework the body and paint her in single stage enamel paint! This was painted back in 1990 and the paint has never seen the sun just like the new interior too!

It has a 2007cc motor build by my friend of mine Paul from Small Car Specialist in Anaheim California. Back in the 90’s they were one of the best shops for fine tuning your VW. This zero kilometer motor comes with a with 78.4 crank from DPR, Engle 120 cam, Cima 90.5 stroker piston, VW stroker rods, brand new AS41 from Brazil, head made the Steve Tims who back then was just starting up. Inside the head are 40x35.5 Stainless Manley valves and ported and polished on the intakes and exhaust. This motor also has one of the original Kymco merged header system with heater boxes, Dog house fan shroud with Gene Berg Type 4 cooler tin weld in place. All tins are German and were powdered coated gloss black.

I had an original set (NOS) Italian Weber 44 IDF for this motor, but I brought them back here to Holland in July 10 and sold them because I need the cash for what photos I am posting on this site!

This 2007cc motor will be used in the Ghia to make sure everything is in order and that the motor is broken in properly. After about 300 Kilometer, I will sale her!

WHY…

Because of the 2332cc Turbo charged motor I am building!!! The turbo kit is from my friend AJ Sims from Lowbugget. We have been talking for year to get me to install one of his kits on one of my VWs. So I bit the bullet and my 1963 Ghia is AKA the “Slumbering Menace”

Get ready Europe! I promise when you see my Ghia it will be one of the nicest Ghia you have ever seen and I will be honor to meet any or you guys and show you around her! Again she been under wraps for 21 years so it time for her to shine again and touch the open roads of Europe!
