Hello everyone
Need to replace my front tyres which were too small (135x15 - was appropriate for previous project) and have been discussing the best size to go forward with. Had been looking at Michelin ZXZ 145 80 15, but someone made mention in a previous thread of being able use wider tyres with similar profile and I was interested in hearing everyone's thoughts? If there was another thread, sorry I missed it.
Thanks
Stuart

175/65 and 185/60 are both the same height as the 145. What wheels are you running?

I have 175s on the F4BRMs and 185s on 6" Alloys that Zach mentions, both in front.
There are also 175/55-15s available which are similar in height to 135s.
The 175/65s are stock size on new Minis so are relatively easy to find.

Going with early Empi 5 repros at first which can cause some difficulties with the tyres being too wide

175/65 will look best on those since they are 5.5" wide. You'll have to narrow the beam (assuming it's lowered).

The 175s fit the 5" (BRM rep.) rims quite nicely. If you think about it, 165s were on the 4.5" stock rims ...

I used 155/70's on a Beetle once - they were a little wider than the 145 but a similar sort of height to the 135.

Really liking the front tires on that car, Luvbug. I'd like to see what those look like in person. I'll hit up my local tire suppliers. I can't stand the usual narrow ones (145) that are on my car.

I you can find 165/70 you'll be close to 145R15. Must be a good size to have fun on little roads!

IMO, that would be the perfect tyre for the front of a looker, but there exists no such size. The 165/65's look nice, but just a bit too short for my tastes. And as far as I know they're only available in Europe.

No worries on the side track, it's a beautiful car, lush indeed. Just nipping back to the original question, Luvbug, what make are your fronts?
