things that you have added to your car that work

I'm in the process of doing another cal look bug and got to thinking about all the things that I've tried on my old car that really worked or I've found that have improved the car and thus that I would do again

I'm taking about a fast reliable car that's nice to drive some miles in

Thought I'd make a list and you guys could add to it

1 gearbox mid mount and engine support bar , makes it so much nicer to lay some power down

2 near standard width beam which is not to low, now got a car that car that I can take the family out in without dodging the speed humps and that handles reasonably well  

3 built gearbox and axles. just an insurance policy  

4 CB rotary fuel pump, so much quieter than some out there

6 two layers of dynomat to the rear floor and fire wall, inside the car, I can hold a conversation or drive some miles and not getting a headace

7 decent front tires, my personal choice 155s with at least a 5" rim,

8 205 70 rear tires, nice cruising tyres

9 berg shifter, a quality piece of kit

10 0.89 4th gear, better fuel mileage and it wont over heat the engine  

11 the easy start convertion on the starter, no more lazy starting on train crossings ( that's another story  )

12 a two speed wiper motor, yes it rains here a lot

13 decent shocks, nice to know that your cars going to go where you point it

14 caster wedges to the front beam, again worth it for the better quality ride

15 a nut welded to the rear spring plate housing to limit spring plate travel when the car unloads coming off the gas, no more brown trouser moments

16 keeping the wind vents in the front windows, my days of two handed window wind ups are over.

Its only taken me 25 years and I've now got a car that I can drive anywhere i want and runs mid 13 's

Gotta agree With The HECK, upgraded brakes are at the top of my list ... almost as nice as a stroker motor! & good shocks ... nice call!

I'll add a PROPER 4 wheel alignment incl. torsion adjust & a PROPER tune on the engine.
I see a lot of different stuff come through here and on the road ... Get it running RIGHT!

basically weld a 13mm nut to the end of the spring plate housing, fill with weld then grind off flat,

stops the rear susspension going into negative positive chamber when unloading , same as idea as limiting straps but cheaper and easier

Yes, the only thing being in my experience, limiting strap do stretch a little with time. Same idea, though.

Yes, the only thing being in my experience, limiting strap do stretch a little with time. Same idea, though.
