Hello,

I'm busy with setting rockergeometry on my 2017 engine but i just dint get it!
If read many topics for setting the geometry but i cant find how to get the pushrods lined up straight with the adjusting screw.

The problem is that if i want to get them lined up i have to shortening the pushrod and screw the adjusting screw out. But if i want them to get straight @ half valve lift the adjusting screw gets to far out of the rocker.
I first set the rollertip contact to the valve as it should be and after that i cant adjust the shims under the rockerblock anymore, so i cant use the shims to get the pushrod length right.

Do i need lash caps if i use pauter rockers? maybe they can get it right?

I hope someone knows how i can get the rockergeometry how it should be.....

Sounds like to pushrod is too short. Do you have an adjustable one?

Indeed....it sounds like the pushrod is to short. But! If i make it longer the angle between the rod and adjusting screw just gets bigger at halve lift.
What is more important: the angle between rod and adjuster or the path that Te rollerrocker makes on the valvestem?

Hi Paul, first you NEED an adjustable p/rod. Second, from what i read about Peter's comment on my topic, is to get the adjusterscrew in line at half valve lift with the pushrod. Third, start shimming then measure...

Im gonna make me a stronger adjustable pushrod tommorow. But the fact is that pauter says, first shim te rockerblocks so the rockers roll correctly over the valvestems. And second maessure the pushrod lenght. So i cant change anything with shimming the rocker blocks.....

here a picture @ half lift:



We measured them and at the looks of it they were near perfect. There are his old pushrods and with the pauters it came out nicely. Could be a bit better tough.

Rockerblocks are shimmed, and rollers are nice on the stems. To me by the looks of it they should be a few mm shorter, but then the adjusterscrew get to deep (2-3windings inside the screw) any longer pushrod will get the alignemt further out.. what now?

To me the rockerblock needs a flat extra shim but i don't know now what that will do to the roller/stem issue.

That's when the dial gauge come's in, so you can excactly: 1, find half lift at the cam, 2, find the best combo of shims, to avoid  coilbind. Just my 2 cents.

I used lashcaps on my type 4 cause that's what the instructions said Wink

With rocker assembly secured to the head without pushrods and at zero lift (valve closed) the rocker/roller tip should contact the tip of the valve or lash cap at approximately 1-1.5mm (.040-.060") BELOW center. If it is below center more than this amount, you must shim the rockers out from the head until it meets this dimension. If it is at center or above center at zero lift, something must be done to increase the valve tip length (add lash caps) or machine the head surface pads where the rockers are held down. NOTE, this is very unusual and can only be the case if valves or seats are of non-standard configuration causing shorter than stock valve tip-to-rocker pad relationship or if you have aftermarket heads, the pads may be higher than stock or the studs are in other than stock location in relation to guide centerline. In either case, correcting this problem requires re-machining the pad, relocating the stud or the use of other than our rocker assembly. To continue, ideally roller tip should contact valve tip at .040-.060" below center at 0 lift and .040-.060" above center at full lift. (See drawing & photos, at bottom.)

Yes, these were in the manual and we took this in our measurements. Rollertip is nice out of center (below center) from what i know, no lashcaps were needed then? Remachining is not the case all stock setup. Could he need a thicker shim on the surface pads?  Think we have to await the adj.pushrod then Wink
