hi guys
the 1600 with twin 36 idf is the car , but still have some trouble to start this one correctly  may be the problem was to be resolved today i've changed my starter to another one and it look that the car start "easily" , that's better that with the old one , i explain , with the old one I had to recover in there several times before the car starts and the battery was almost everytime unloaded
the car run "well"  but  need some helping for jetting my carbs  ,

here's what i've into those one

36 idf weber

venturis :32mm  ..........may be 28 mm will be better
Emulsion tube : F9
Main jet : 1.22
Air corrector : 1.75
and in the starter jet : 47

so in the weber book here's what they said for n 1600cc with dual 40idf

venturis : 28 mm
main gas(i suppose it's jet) : 1.30
main A/C(i suppose it's air corrector) : 2.00
Emulsion tube  : F11
idle (it's starterjet ??) : 55
pump jet : 50

can someone give may be teh best combination for jetting my carbs

nicolas will may be explain some trouble

thx guys for your help

fabs

Fabs,

What cam are you running? Stock heads?
Is this truly a 1600?
What do want to rev it to?

Assuming the above is true and a 5000 redline, the 28s are the way to go.
Try starting off with 120M & 170A, 55 idles should be OK.
Should be a good place to start ...
Take care,

Tom ,
i've buy that engine in 96 with 0 miles it's a standart exchange

so the heads original sizeand cam is original too "normally"

5000rpm , in first it's rev to 6000 rpm may be too high  Roll Eyes ... Grin Grin , but the engine as "potential" , he smoke black when he's cold and when you goes into rpm , and don't take his rpm correctly and sometimes he's popping into the carbs it look like cylinder 2 , i've watched my spark plugs and 1,3,4 are black and 2 is grey so i've turned the screw an half tour in anti clokwize  for ciminder 2 ,and yesterday very strange things who never happening before , i was in 3 gear and i've put back my 2nd  without accelerating and some popping into the exhaust and big black smoke came outside things he never do before  ,and the car stopped, flooded by the fuel Huh

today it started without any issue with the new starter  but i will try tomorrow to see if the starter was the problem

thx TOM i will try that and see how the engine works

Fabs,
What's your timing setting, especially TOTAL degrees at 3500+?
Actually, the 55s may be too big, try 45s or 50s.

Christoph's 110 cam will let him rev much stronger than you so his 180As are better for him, I think.

If you have them, try the 45 or 50 idles ... 55 is too much.
Enjoy the day,
Tom

hey,

don't go for the 115's with the 32 vents. not enough fuel for sure. if you have 28 vents that is good, but now it will not work. stay with the 122's and lean out the air from 175 to 190 again. idles will be OK with something between 50 and 55, your 47 are OK as well.

if someone can help Fabs out with some 28 vents i think i will be set to drive the car and not rev above 5500 anymore  Roll Eyes

tom , i've came back to my first set up and the engine runs better , he found the "power" again , first set up was  M/J 1.35 , A/C 1.90 , idle  : 47 , but there were still small holes in the acceleration so i've put 1.75 for air correction , and works better no hole acceleration now  , that set up works with the 32 mm venturis but i will search after a 28mm set

we had some phonecall this weekend over the jetting this weekend and with what we have this is how it runs for now. like fabs said 28 vents would suit it better.

but he also had a problem with the accelorator pump dribbling after the engine is turned off and he wanted to see if this can be solved. it runs a DDS centerlinkage and if i can have a wild guess at it this is what causes the fuel to drip on the butterflies. is there a cure? and if it isn't the linkage what else could cause this problem.

Excellent news Fabian!
Yes the 135s would be 'textbook' for the 32 vents. The 28 vents I think would suit your combination a little better and restrict high rpm, but if it runs ... IT RUNS! LOL
Did you ever find where the timing is set?
I had the dribbling problems years ago with a pair of 40 DCNFs ... make sure the carbs are definitely closing COMPLETELY, when cold and when hot.
Good news!

thx tom  , dribbling was only when engine is "hot", so it's a linkage problem???

and you think that the 135 will be good with the 28 mm  they aren't to big??? engine is rich now with the 32 mm and 135m/j but runs better than the 122

the best thing is testing different combo when i will found some 28mm
thx for your advice too

Fabs,
No, the 135s will be too big for the 28 vents ... I believe the 120 or 125s will be better.

As for the dribbling, yes check your linkage when @ running temperature ... I set up push/pull linkages when they're warm. Maybe that will help?

Take care Fabs,
