This is my B/MC 1968 Bug. It's the real deal that started racing the early Bug Ins then ran NHRA B/MC from 75-81. The car came with with DDS shifter and rear wheels. The engine is an 1835 with 42x37 heads(we think they are DDS also), 48IDAs and FK89. I was told the best time was 11.9. We have not changed a thing about it, just some fresh paint & some cleaning. We are hoping to have it done for the end of May.

EMPI parts on the car are the tail lights and pedal pads. The gauges are two head temp units. The Bug In dash plaques are 7-11 if I remember correctly. The car also used the stock seats but I really don't want to use them as they look stupid.

Larry, you gotta use the stock seats! That's all part of the Modified Compact deal to keep the weight up! (If you use lighter seats, you'll have to drink more beer, eat more burgers etc to get the weight right...) Car looks cooooool! Cool

First off this is not Fred's Super Bee we had this car first. Fred's car is getting body & paint done now and will be done just like it was in 1977(I'll post photos as I get them). This car ran about the same time, but did not win nearly as much or make any magazines and did not have a name. It's a very nice car that came complete with all the cool parts. When we got it the car it was painted black and sponsored by Hot Shoe. It had shoe laces painted on the hood! It had been sitting outside in a damp climate for at least 17 years. The guy had the car painted and at the first race he put a rod through the case. The carbs had no covers and are frozen shut. So all we have done so far is strip the car and paint it the original color which is how it raced in the NHRA.. Everything on the car is pretty nice, as the car became a race car in 1971 and was only three years old.
I guess your correct, I should run stock seats, but I can not run the high backs. They just look so ugly and non racey. I know they kept all the weight up front. The battery was and will be mounted in the spare tire well.
The cage does look like Mike Smiths. I will take more photos in a few weeks. The rear bar mounts in the center of the body just above the access hole for the shift coupler. The main hoop mounts to the heater channels and pan on each side.

Kinda like my roll bar. My car is a Ex-M/C car as well and later switched to SS/CX. Here is a few pictures of my car.

I know its been a long time, but here are some updated photos of the car. We just got it back from the sign painter today. We wanted to run it at Bug O Rama, but ran out of time. It looks pretty cool if I do say so myself.

Thanks for the complements guys. The reason it says NHRA record holder is because it was, although only very briefly during those years and the past owner said he  had written record holder on the hood. I asked the sign painter to put record holder 1979 & 1980 on the hood (bonnet) and this is how it came back. The past owner only had one early photo of the car, that he could find, and did not want to copy it or send to me. I want to get to the NHRA museum to research the records so I have proof of when the car ran and it's wins. They may have some photos also.

Shubee, The decklid is what the car came with. The car is a 1968. When I bought the car it came complete as raced so I didn't have to find any pieces. The car sat outside in a damp climate and the whole inside was moldy and the carbs were frozen solid. I will keep adding photos as we progress.

Larry,

Will you be in Vegas with the car?
