Great day at the Bug In today, however, it seemed like attendance was down a little.  I think the other event happening at Featherly Park pulled some people away.  Not sure both events were scheduled for the same day?!

First, I'm very happy that Marc Buehler made it down from Washington with his Split.  Great to see both him and his car.  I know it was not cheap or easy or get it down here.  Thanks to his buddies Jim and Bob for helping Marc get the car down here, (and hopefully back in one piece!).  Really fun to see everyone's reaction to seeing it again after so many years.

Second, what a surprise to have a unplanned DRA mini reunion today.  So many guys I have not seen in a long long time.  I really enjoyed seeing them all.

Third, thanks for everyone who gave my so many positive comments on my Ghia, and to see the huge reaction to Marc's car, (along with our massive two car DRA display!).  Also...both of our cars trophied too.  Pretty cool!

Lastly, thanks to all in DKK for sharing their club space with Marc and myself.  Shortly before the Bug in, it looked like we had a little bit of a hiccup with a location for our display, (did I say "massive", two car display!).  DKK was good enough to help us out and shared some of their space..  Thanks guys!

....Ed.

It was our honor to share our space!

It's is so great to see the old clubs get back in touch and get cars out!

Marc's car was breathtaking!

And Ed, your car is always great to see as well!

Ditto what Rick posted. Ed & Marc, it was truly our club's honor to have you and D.S.K. with our display. I was so stoked that it worked out for everyone. The one guy that was directing cars in our area was very cool and let us put cars where they needed to be.

I'm processing a couple of pictures that I shot, today, and they'll be posted up soon. Stay tuned.

For many of us, the day began by waking up at 0400hrs. D.K.K. met up at a nearby Del Taco to eat, have some coffee, and hang out.

Almost in.

Our own Roy Maple's car.

We got our display dialed in and were quite happy with the end result.

Banners up.

But this caused weariness and some fatigue for a few of us. Junior, caught taking a quickie nap.

Afterwards, I was more than stoked to see two D.R.A. cars rolling into the car show area. I asked if they could set up next to us and they were taken care of.

I've been wanting to take this shot for many years.

Side view.

Specification sheet.

For those old enough to remember Brasso, Neverdull, Blue Magic, Simichrome, etc.

Ed & Marc brought a couple of these great framed pictures.

Then, we made our way to the vendor area. Schley dragster, anyone?

She sure turned out nice.

Bee sighting.

Back at camp D.K.K. it was time to eat and we ended up having a pretty nice spread.

Plenty of shade from the sun and Santana winds to enjoy food.

More to time to joke, have fun, and catch up with friends.

Gunter! Thanks for the photo, Rosique!

Java Green goodness.

Over at the track, saw my friend Kathy, taking track side photos. We've known each other since grade school and she has one of the best offices in the world, strictly shooting drag racing for a living. NICE! Thanks for the photo, Rayburn!

Can't figure out why... but I'm always drawn to this car.

The big trophy is Mark Ramirez's Best Of Show and World's Most Beautiful Bug for his car named My Toy. Go look up your history and set the Wayback Machine to around 1980 for the answers.

Another perspective.

Art by Art.

Mr. Brinton demonstrates the hula.

Speaking of hula... Tod's hula girl is awesome! I collected a few of these over the years and haven't seen that one.

How about a '54 rolling pan/chassis?

Back at headquarters.

Our own Joe "Skeeter" Larson's beautiful '66.

Gunter, again.

Just can't get enough of Marc's car.

The cabin.

It was a long day, and all things must draw to an end. On the way out... stopped by and talked to Marc one more time.

Marc & Zach.

We said our goodbyes and talked about the next event where our paths will cross, again.

On the road again with D.K.K. Ernie Barron in my rear view mirror.

Then, caught up with Fabien in his wife's convertible.

Got home at 1600hrs. tired and ready for some relaxing. Twelve hours and very worth it. Even though it was the lightest crowd I've ever seen, our club had a blast. Thank you to every DEEK that made it, contributed, and made the day a memorable one. It was also cool seeing a few of the traveling members from The Lounge. Great talking with you all. Hope to see you soon and may your journey home be a safe/fun one.

See y'all at the next event/gathering!

'Tis my pleasure, Fabian. There will be a few more pics posted here from the day. And yes... seeing Marc's car made so many people happy, throughout the day. He was rather pleased, to say the least.

Great write up Ed and great photos to all who submitted them.  I would have really liked to see the red split again after all of these years as long ago Billy Aroyo, owner prior to Mark B. let me use those front seats in my pre Butternut car for sometime.

Unfortunately Christie has been very sick for going on two weeks and I started getting it on Thursday.  Made it to Nick's on Friday and C&C early Saturday morning, but became totally wiped out after that.  Yesterday was spent in bed sleeping and wishing I was somewhere else.

Looking forward to the Classic next month and the Bug-In next year.

Great report as always Mark!!    Wish I'd of seen Marc and his car, I was on the other side all day.  (wish they'd switch the show and swap areas for Bug In) The wind was a bummer but the day was good overall.

I didn't make it over to the car show area, so when we came across Marc's car as we were leaving I HAD to stop and check it out! Definitely the highlight of my day!
