Ok, so with all of the cool threads on alternative wheels, colors, etc and the thread on internet Cal-Look cars, lets stir it up a bit.  We all know that you Europeans are typically more brave than the Americans when building a unique, but period correct Cal-look car.  So if you were going to push the envelope, yet stay within the somewhat hazy perameters of "Traditional Cal-Look" what are some bits and pieces that are overlooked now, but could be used to be more unique.

Setting the ground-rules.  No suggestion without a picture!  Smiley

I would say, leather steering wheels in general. Wooden steering wheels are so popular over here, much too popular for my taste.

Here is a car that has at least three, if not "forgotten",  at least underappreciated bits.
1) Its a late model
2) Buggy bumpers need to come back in a big way
3) Empi Spyders - Likely the most desirable EMPI wheel other than the BRM in the 70s/early 80s.

Not to mention, its a convertible! You NEVER see cal look 'verts these days!

There was a white cal look vert featured alongside a black, stock, oval window in HotVWs a few years back. Anyone remember it?

Heres My Old 67 Cal Look I had this Car In 1978 Notice Wires and Coil Wire go threw the Fan Shroud just like the Engine on Cherry Bomb, Dechromed Dash with Gauges, Digital Clock in ash tray face and the ash tray still worked, also Intermintant wiper switch mounted where lighter would be. Formuling France Wheel,Hurst Shifter, One Piece Windows,Plaid Interior.

Ok Heres My 67 Vert At Bug In 13 then a Picture same car with 5 Spokes and Then BRM's......  Anybody Need Some BRM's DSK Entered this Beat Up 67 Convert In The Car Show At Bug In It Made the Hot VW's Mag!  We Had 21 Original Brm's Stuffed in The Car We did have One Jack Ass  Rip us off for a few Spacers !!!  Sad Sad Sad

I know I'm not following protocal for this strain (no pic provided, some to follpw) Bill it didn't have an EMPI turbo it had Mr Bug 48's and as far as I concerned Rick's 67 had a WINK mirror with a louvered backing! By the way Why did you let Kobus in on the BUS JUMPING, if you remember it wasn't just a couple of feet, it was like the "vomit comet" where everything inside was just floating around, ya know anti-gravity. Oh what times. Happy birthday by the way, sorry we didn't hook up at HB. Glenn

currently working on the one colour wiring. should be nice when i get i working, if ever...  Roll Eyes

and i am still looking for a chroming factory to rechrome the bumpers and the ashtray (like in dave rhoads car)

6 of them were Mine the rest belonged three other DSK Club Members Did Anyone Notice the Old 135 X Tires mounted on the BRMs heres a Picture Of My 67 Vert With BRM's My Friend Steve Walkers Lotus White 67 In the Back Ground also running BRM's and DSK  Club Stickers

Did not Empi make an early wastegate system called "Select-A-Boost". Correct me if I am wrong.......

Cool tach Christophe, I love the sideswept Autometer. I run one in my looker as well. Lot's of drag cars back in the day had them. Gary Berg had one in his blue 67 and the black Berg car has one too.. Note allso the black VDO speedometer in my car, sold through Auto Haus. I think the VDO cockpit gauges are very cool. Sorry for the bad picture of the car, it's been sitting in the garage all winter collecting dust, poor thing...

As Jim Ratto once answered me, "don't be afraid to go out of the way", that should be the sentence more or less, and told me Grag Aronson sported a Smith Tacho, so I guess any make should do the trick   Wink

Personally I'm VDOs, fed up with Auto meter & Monster gage stuff  Grin

I like the VDOs very much, too. I changed the black rings to chrome rings, but left the needle red. Now I still need a matching fuel gauge.

The porsche inspired colour coded look - smoothed & painted bumpers, 8 spoke empi`s & black detailing with baby tornado mirrors!

my old friend Bryan Wenzel, former Aufklarung club member, ran VDO series 1 gauges, simple black face with white digits and chrome bezels. I think he ran oil temp, pressure and matching 10,000 tach. Looked at home in his '65 sedan.

I running the same Series 1s in my 67 too. I'm running oil temp. oil pressure, cylinder head temp, along with a VDO 8,000 rpm tach and 150 mph speedometer. I bought them when I was in Aufklarung about the same time Byran bought his.

I think VDO gauges were part of the "Aufklarung look", along with Porsche 356 generator nuts, bald rear tires and club stickers that washed off the windows when you'd wash the car. And interiors that stunk of stale beer.
