........ VWs are different? To my knowledge there's not a exhaust system on the market following his logic.

You mean apart from the OEM VW muffler? 4 open pipes, no collector, all tuned length ending in a large-volume resonant chamber?  Wink

It's not how fast you go; it's how you go fast.

Damn good point!

Actually the resonant chamber is the collector. And if you eliminate the volume that the pipes and other features consume in that chamber you'd see that it's not altogether as big as it seems. A lot of the performance headers in the Porsche world are variations of the stock design which differs mostly in size from this.

Well setting off with the pipe bender to follow in VWs footsteps is not something I consider easy. The stock pipes are far from round (heat exchangers) but there is no doubt that it works.
Most people would have a tough time to justify fabricating and tweaking to get a homebuilt OEM system to work. I think Volkswagen had quite different resources, and could therefor place packing on the top of there priority list.
We don't mind the exhaust showing, or that it takes half an hour to fit.

The point about the missing collector is a interesting one, some claim they are hugely important, but some of the most power full bike engines lack them altogether.
Check out what emphasis Vizard puts on it in his article.
