Fitting 356-A brakes

What is needed to fit 356-A brakes on an oval?

I heard somewhere that B- rear backingplates are needed for the rear brakes. Is this correct or can I use the A- backingplates

Witch front bearings are needed?

Witch dual master-cylinder fits for these brakes?

mine were on my 61 , bearings were the same as the vw drums and for the rear nothing special to put those one on , same as when you've put back vw drums

Nice. So no special tricks then? A  rear backingplates and standard vw bearings.

I have 356A on the front of my car and 356B on the rear only because that is what I found for sale.  I believe the only difference is the brake drums with the B having fins and the A not. The shoes are identical front and rear, A or B.
The Porsche backing plates are thicker than the VW ones so that "moves" the bearing housing out and the drums will bind on the axle bearing cover.  Unless you are using early non-synchro transmission bearing covers (I'm told), you need to mill the back of the bearing caps down the difference in thickness. I milled mine down but if you have the original axle bearing housings for your year car, I think you will be in good shape.

I didn`t think of that but it sounds logical. We dont want roomy bearinghouses. I will keep this in mind when mounting. Thanks
