Velocity stacks and air turbulence

I stumbled upon these screens and it appears they would work quite well. Wouldn't the lip sitting inside the stack would cause some type of turbulence? I may just go to a local metal supply, find some bulk stainless steel or copper screen and bend it over the curve of the stack.
