Which intermediate housing I should get if I plan to use SSF-Pyörä gearset? And yes, I'll ask from Jussi.
Would Berg BUS600A work?
Or should I get
this
one from Weddle?

Thanks for the info!
Berg has only early style available and recommended Erco late style housing, but I'm not sure how to Contact Erco.

The only way to contact Eric is by phone, fax or a letter in the mail. He does NOT do internet or email.

Anyone got any more info on fitting this into a street beetle?
I would love to drive to the strip and fit slicks, race and know I am not going to break the trans.
Looks like the bus box is the best option

I have. It is no big deal to install it. I used Berg mounts and made the slots in the spring plates slightly longer.

Is there anyway to put berg bus 5-speed box to beetle, WITHOUT moving engine back and up? My car is a street car and i would like to have all stock tinware.
My engine just moved a few mm back and About 10 to 15mm to the passenger Side , and it's also a streetcar so far 15.000 km without trouble
This took some work to get as much space as possible but worth the effort

Hello Hans,
nice build of your car. Do you have some experiences for me because I`m asking myself, if the folts axle conversation is also good for street use?
I have some thoughts, that dirt on the street can cause some damage on these axles (because there are no axle boots mounted)? Do you had some problems with dirt on the street with these axles?
I`m thinking also to put a bus box in my bug with these conversation axles, but I don`t know if it would be good to use the gearbox also on the street.

I'm running a 091 on the street with my turbo 2332 with no problems other than it 'seems' to be low geared --- --- regeared it so that the gears were way higher 0.90 third, 0.77 fourth (wish I would been able to find a 0.70) -- but I've since found out that Rancho can make higher ratio R&P sets for it by redoing the pinon gear -- -- I've got 930 CV's and axles in it from Carcraft in Riverside CA -- I played with several kits for mounting the 091 in place, hoping to get the shift linkage into the tunnel, but finally gave up and hacked together several of the kits and made my own and ran the linkage on top.....
Mike Lawless tried to talk me into using a 002 which with a nose cone switch would put the linkage into the tunnel ---- He has had excellent results with his 002 from Rancho -- Look at his build on the web, do a google search for "White Knuckle Ride" 'Lawless' as the key words to find it...

Hi,
Dirt is no problem, the U-Joints on the Folts kit are Spicer /Corvette units.
It it has worked for the Corvettes for 50 years....

Hi Roman,
ok thank you for your answer. So I think my new gearbox should be a 002 with the folts axle kit.

My question is .
Would any of you guys fit an early 002 3 rib box to a swing axle chassis.
Bearing in mind the clearance work that needs doing to the frame horns, and also doing the irs conversion to the torsion tubes. I have a good 002 3 rib without the mounting ears on the bell housing that I can use.
Thanks.

If you buy (I think from Berg) a 002/091 mounts he gives you the areas to trim on you trans tubes, (basically the fins on the side) then you weld up the gaps -- then the trans sets in there very nice
I thought I had a picture of my rails marked out for cutting, but I guess it disappeared into photobucket hell.........................

Only if it's a 68 or newer. A Beetle trailing arm hits the shock tower, even if slightly lowered. That's why VW changed the shock towers in 68. Later swing axle pans have the type of shock tower that clears the TA like an IRS pan.
