No stupid question at all,i've done it more then once...
Just set your timing with a regular washer ,then take the cam out ,put it on the mill and install minimum 2 small shuffle-pins to keep the camgear in position.Then you just torque the 3 bolts with regular good quality washers,and use some green loctite.
Another advantage of doing it this way is you can adjust your timing for 100%,with the 2° or 4° washer you're not always "spot on"
