Bit more today on the rear hubs machining bits off that are not needed and pulling out the old bearings

So I've found out this is common on the 997 when trying to tack the hub out it splits the bearing

Removed the porsche hand brake shoe retainers and the disk back plate lugs

Re bored the holes paralel as the hubs will be sitting at a different to a 997 and I don't want the helm joints to bottom out

This is were the knuckles I made will be used

Removed the ABS sensor so I can fit a Hall effect sensor in place for traction control as they respond quicker than the magnetic sensor

Cheers Andy

Thanks this may yet end up on the stupid idea shelf lol

Its a bit boring but I've machined the hubs on the bottom two to removed the angles and put the at 90deg to the car and also gain some travel as the hubs will sit a lot lower than they would on a 997 so I was worried about bind and I also wanted to get rid if the taper ball joints

I've used m14 x 1.15 same as porsche wheel studs this large nut I have made so I can attach the liner sensor to measure suspension travel

Bit of clearancing

Bottom stud and spacer

Cheers Andy

Tapped out the old hole for the ABS

Machined one of the front hubs and fitted magnet with South facing out to the sensor

And now for some weld porn

Turbo inlets

Pedals for the pedal,box

Not much of an update but changing bearing on the front hubs was a pain as one of the retaining bolts snapped in the hub then a drill bit Sad

Didn't beat me new bearing in

Front abs sensor is different to the rear

And also found to that boxster spindles are different to the cayman

Stripped the top of a 12v denso alternator down

This is the regulator all small surface mount stuff with a custom voltage comparator it looks like so I will build another regulator to fit in the box to the alternator produces 19.5 volts open circuit so it charges at about 18 volts for the cars 16volt system

So I've shown some of his before in the R&D days but it works no need for 110v stuff

Start at this

90 mins later

So it works lol 12vdc @ 20 amps to heat 6.8l or 1.5 gallons of oil

Temp sensor

Andy

any idea how hot do the glow plugs get in free air? just wondering if they will burn the oil by getting to hot as its impressive how quick they warm it up

Like the chute release set up Cool

hi

im not sure how hot they would get in free air but they would glow red and burn out if left too long.

I did test them straight in oil and it did look as it may burn it. Then I made the heater pockets that are welded into the tank and that stopped any bubbling around the heater. Ive been testing them for the last 3 days for 5 hours at a time keeping the oil at 70 Deg and they have been fine so far no burn out at all.

Hi Andy,

Very pleased to hear you have been doing all this testing to check it works given I have stolen your idea having done no R&D at all........

Hopefully I'll be doing some of my own to back up your results in just over a month though

Thanks Peter

Steal away mate it's flattering lol It works 100% and I don't think they will burn out quickly as the heat is taken away quickly even it they do no need to drain oil just swap one out 2 mins work.

so this but is a bit of and experiment but I think it will work its going to be a sensor that will measure the force on the wheelie bar to record how hard and fast  the bar is being used to the bar can be adjusted up or down

this is the MK1

it will fit to the top tube and then to the car and be solid so wont move as it will he hydraulic and measure the force on the bar

weldathon today 8 hours of cutting and welding and its 80% welded up just got to find some air bags so i can start on the axles Smiley

cheers andy

Andy

Been looking back at this build and the amount of work / hours you have done is amazing.

loving the trailer but I think any trailer over 750 kg  has to be tested by vosa to be legal and be covered under your insurance. This was being phased in over by the eu from 2012 onward so it may be worth checking your construction / completion dates

Nice build by the way
