Driving Hot VWs for 44 Years Strong!

« on: November 21, 2011, 09:38:00 am »

Several of us met last Saturday to cruise from several locations in Phoenix to the northeast near Canyon Lake. We drove a couple miles past the lake to Tortilla Flats for lunch. Was a great road trip.  People always gather to check out the HOT VWs when they show up anywhere.  I know Don Bulitta and other cruisers took shots and will post some of theirs as well.

The first shot is me leaving the house at 8:30am headed to meet Howard and JoAnne Washington. We would cruise round North Phoenix on the new 303 outer loop to meet the rest of our group in Phoenix.  Second shot is of Howard and JoAnne's late model with a 200hp 2332 in it.  Third shot is at the Canyon Lake overlook. Will post some other shots too.

Here are a few more shots of our group. One is out the front window (passenger side) of my chop.  You'll notice my wink mirror captured the bug behind me. Also some shots of a couple of us parked at Tortilla Flats, across from the old town restaurant.

Here are some more photos of the trip to Tortilla Flats.  Some were taken by my wife from our car and the rest were provided by Randy Hollingsworth.  Most of which were taken by his wife as he either followed the caravan or drove in front of use when we headed home.

A few more shots of our trip to Tortilla Flats.  The first is a shot of our arrival at Tortilla Flats and the second is when we were heading home.

What a beautiful day for a cruise! Thanks for all the nice pictures.
Tortilla Flats is a cool "Rest Stop" along the Apache Trail. I was there once, but came in by the dirt road from Roosevelt Lake.
For those who don't know about it...

Thanks, I've had that there since about '98 when Brian Holcomb came to Phoenix from Wisconsin.  He gave it to me.  I had more made later on and handed them out at Nick's.  Later Gary Justice had some made.  I thought it was cool a the time.  Some folks just don't get it.... Oh well!

I was great!  A lot of twists and turns, roller coaster type hills.  Great views too!  Arizona has some awesome landscape to view.
