With that said, the car is known as Tar BABE....not Tar Baby.

Wasn't this due to an error on the sign writing?

No, you're thinking of the famous 'Ingle' instead of 'Engle'...

I knew that one, for some reason I had it in my head the car was always called Tar Baby when talked about at the time, but ... that wasn't reflected in the sign writing.

Aside from the spelling, whats the correct pronunciation?

I've always said Tar-Babe (Bab - Long A) ,

not (Ba-bee) Baby

The car still looks nice, slightly surreal. Like a toy amongst the bobbins  Smiley

Reading through this brought back a lot of memories of watching this car run. I found this photo that I've had a copy of for years, thought I'd share

This has got to be a great yarn!  How did it make its way from Mexico to TX?
