Have discovered that manifolds currently on the car are for 48 IDAs, not 40 Dells (will be selling them shortly if anyone interested)
So need new ones but would still to run with deck lid shut and air cleaners.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

CB offset manifolds work well.

I run the CB ones as well, they are affordable, have plenty of meat for match porting and are easily available.

The current EMPI/Mr. Bug manifolds are junk, stay away from them.  They are weak and prone to breaking at the bottom flange.  Also, when DRLA Dellortos are bolted to them, they will interfere with a stock DH fan shroud.  They were designed for Weber IDFs.

The CB manifolds are good quality.  They won't break like the EMPI ones.  They fit well.  But they have a problem.  The hole at the top is 50mm in diameter.  This is OK for a 48 mm carb, but it's bad for a 40mm carb.  The CB manifolds used to be made with a 40mm hole at the top, but it's been about 20-25 years since they made them.  They do show up at swap meets occasionally.

CSP sells a manifold that is 40mm at the top.  This is the one to get.

Here are the CSP that Bruce is talking about where the manifold hole is not oversized and fits the 40mm carb...

Sorry but these are the best . They do not need much port work because they have some bigger diameters inside and are offered with big or original flansh . They come in 48 and 40 mm also the 40's can get ported to 44 very easy , inside goes from 40- 42 and then smaller

They look heavy.  And they are not offset, so will CB linkage work???
Where are they available from?  $£€?

I also like bugpack #1038 manifolds.

CB sells base plates to fit their linkage on straight manifolds.

Thanks everyone, great feedback.

Interestingly Bruces point about the wrong size diameter top is exactly the problem discovered.  It was giving a flat spot it seemed.  Thanks Bruce for the info.

Udo - they look interesting, which make are they?

They are avaliable at my shop or csp, price is 180 euros. They work with csp linkage , i  use the german riechert on most engines. Looks like old school then

I also like bugpack #1038 manifolds.
Here's the description from the Bugpack site:
"1038 Dual Tall 40-44IDF/DRLA Manifolds"
This tells me the hole at the top is at least 44mm in dia.  It's not too bad, but a 40mm hole is ideal.

One thing to consider when using CB's off set manifolds is that the flow isn't quite as good as with more straight intake runners. When we visited Johannes Perssons Dynoday a couple of years back, he flow tested CB off set manifold among others. At the given flow test, they flowed 10 - 13 hp less than other symmetric intake manifolds. So, they will fit well in the engine compartment, but will not get the optimal out off your carbs.

I started producing my manilfolds because all others are too small inside and outside and most have different length . The only ones are the Bergs that work fine . But they do not fit with orginal fan housing and are too short

Udo's manifolds are great quality products. And they will also fit with narrowed engines and original fan shroud.

So are CSP DRLA/IDF 40  manifolds (part number 129 711 140) the ones you are talking about, or a different product?

Can you find out more info on this testing?  What kind of engine was used?  What size carbs? Which CB manifolds were used, the ones that are 50mm at the top, or properly sized ones?
Also, your statement is confusing.  Flow isn't measured in hp.  Was it a flowbench comparison test, or was it on a dyno?

It was a flow test - as I wrote earlier. I should have written ... which could be compared to 10 - 13 hp. As you properbly know, it is generally accepted that flow tests performed with a depression of 25 mm hg, and measured in cfm, can be compared to what can be achieved as engine hp output (if all components are mixed correct)

Can't remember if CB's offset manifolds are 48 or 50 mm in the top?

However, there was a small Dyno Day "report" online some time after the meeting. But I can't seem to find it now... Angry  It is several years back. Maybe some other scandinavian callook lounger members can find it somewhere?

You can find the test under Dynoday 2004 on JPM's site, only in swedish.
The test was made with a 044 head with 40*35,5 valves, unported.
Lift (mm) Offset   Straight
2            40,1       41,1
4            69,2       71,4
6            90,2       93,6
8           103,5     110,6
10         111,7     122,6
12         116,5     128,1
14         118,9     132,3
16         121,7     135,2

different length of ports in one manifold can not be good...
