With the padding they are far better than the cheap poly seats. The only issue is how to mount them. I would weld two bars going from the heater channel to the tunnel and use them as a mount for the seats.

The trouble with 914 seats is that they lack any sideways support. Look good, but barely any more supportive than a stock VW seat round corners.

Is there a way of building up the bolsters on the 914 seat for more lateral support ?

There again, my 145's ar'nt too good on corners anyway  Cheesy

I always like Cerullo Sport seats.  They are pricey and American made, but they are very well made.

For me the coolest seat is the Recaro Rallye II, manufactured from 1974 to 1979.
It has adjustable back rest and a metal exoskeleton in wrinkle finish... you can also see the padding thru windows in the side.
They were optional from M-sport for the 2002Tii BMW:

And they were standard fitment to the Scirocco junior Cup cars:

Some better pics:

Got these in mine.  Look good but headrest is pointless, it hits below my shoulders.  I'm planning a change in the future.

Have you guys seen the TMI Sport seat kits in the March issue of Hot VW''s ? That's the route I am going! Finally, kits to hop up your original VW seats that look awesome! Just wondering how much they really firm up the seat pads?Huh
Seems the springs have to weaken in these original seats over time. I beat a good seat guy could firm them up too. The new TMI gives your stock seat that wrap around fit to hold you in place, yet still looks original! I like it alot! Wink

Man -- you guys with your shoulder harnesses anchored well below your shoulders -- you need to do something about that - PLEASE -- one hard hit with those on can cause more damage/injury to you than if you hadn't worn them at all
