hallo,
the heads and rockers went on my engine today,but it seems like it has coil bind.
what is the best way to solve this probleme from coil bind?
whitout changing the cam off course.
the cam is an FK-10 and the rockers are 1.4 scats
can i do some modification on the heads or so to solve this?

Longer valves.
Bore the pockets for the springs deeper.
Shorten the springs.
Taller retainers.

Yes indeed, Mr Tezer is correct. A set of Scat 1.4s I have lifts close to 1.5 and with an FK10 I had I ended up with almost .600 lift, which is far too much for the dual spring setup found on most performance heads and so one option is to use the CB 650 springs or those from JPM.

ok thanks guys,
it seems indeed that it would work with the CB 650 springs.
i'm also gonna have to machine the titanium retainers a bit down as these are touching the valve guides.
don't think this wil be a probleme,only have to shave of 3mm?

Machine the valve guides not the retainers. A couple of mm off a guide is nothing, 2 mm off a retainer is lots. you run the risk of the retainer pulling through.  |

You really need to install some "checking" springs and find out what your total lift is. You then need to check your installed height. The vw 650 spring with a retainer that has a .100 outer spring step will coil bind at .850. You need at least .050 before coil bind.

I would also change to the CB springs and different rockers. Scats have different ratio in one set. From 1,3-1,5 . But it sounds like you have to grind the spring seat too. Watch for breaking through in the intake port

ok guys,
thanks for all the info.
i orderd the CB650 springs and see if this will solve the probleme.
also gonna machine down the valve guides instead of machining the retainers.
let you know how it goes.

ok,springs are in and the valve guides are trimmed down 2mm. everything clears now and i have no coil bind anymore. it really starts to look like an engine now.  henk!!! |

Great turbo install  Your air filter will be picking up a lot of heat though; reducing your intercooler's efficiency somewhat. Some extra hp to be had by a simple relocation  |
