Update time ---- Some dude came up to me an made me an offer I probably should of refused, but I didn't and I gave him the big engine out of the Ghia..... So I'm thinking it is time for a more of a street loving engine for the car -- So here is the new incarnation -- A 2332 with a bunch of goodies.... Probably not the total top shelf build I should of done but has enough good parts to get it running and sorted out.....

Still fabbing stuff together and trying to get everything to play together nicely......... The engine is 1/2 inch wider and 3/8" longer than a stocker, so everything that I bought trying to save time, had to be modified and took more time than piecing everything together.... Here's where I'm as of this morning and I'm planning a full day of attacking this thing, but I'll probably spend most of it chasing parts/bolts/stuff if you know what I mean....

The purple lines on the blow-thru hat on the EFI is where I'm having interference with the deck lid -- I'm trying to decide whether to cut the hat and reweld it at the purple lines or offset the deck lid higher -- kind of leaning towards opening the deck lid up as it will add a little more air flow to the engine also....

Playing in the garage today -- made the "spacers" to raise the deck lid -- the results --

Clears everything by a 1/2". So I could of made them a little smaller.... Got some 1/2" black pipe and some 8mm fender washers. Welded the washers to the pipe and came out pretty sturdy... Just need to throw some paint on them...

Almost got the intake system all finished. went to weld on the POP-off valve on, then notice/discovered that the flange was Aluminum.... Oh well, good place to finish for the day..... Off to my favorite Mexican food place for dinner....

Can I ask please whether you need to use a scavenge pump with the turbo that low?
Draining straight into the sump?
Thanks.

Fuel system completely redone -- just missing two -8an to -6an fittings -- ordered them from Jeg's today........ Redid the front mounting of the fuel pump and ran the 5/8" lines down through the tunnel -- need to take a picture of that

Oil system is next .....

Sorry -- missed your question until just now -- What I've done in the past is just make sure the turbo is higher than the oil level in the engine and then drain line is ran into the sump and I've had no issues so far.... The thinking is as long as the oil has a way to drain even if it is only a short distance, it is still draining..... The whole drain line can have oil in it but as long as there is a gap below the center section your good....

The turbo kit I sell is lower than his, and we have no issues. As long as the centerline of the turbo is even a half inch above the oil level, it's been no problem...

...and the oil drain is pointing straight down. Don't ask me how I know this.

BTW, how do you make sure Cyl 1-2 are not leaning out with this setup?

Agreed. I think they look terrible on pretty much every car I've ever seen them on, including the Porsches they came standard on, but this Ghia and one beige bay window bus are the only two vehicles that I've liked them on - in fact both look superb on them!

Went to the Pomona Swap meet today.... ((Bet you guys can tell the wife is out of town for a week))

Wow, I haven't been to one in over 20 years and this thing was massive. Easy 200 VW's in the VW corral. Got a wild hair and hung a For Sale sign on the Ghia for $20K as the guy in the Porsche powered Bus next to me had a price of $100K on it..... But the side panels on it were soooooo straight, I could of taken a picture of my Ghia off it (or you can see my car in the reflection off the door)..... The Double cab behind me was gorgeous too!!!!

No one wanted a HotRod Ghia LOL........

Here is a picture of the engine -- finished -- for now -- this week -- today

Have made some templates to cover all the openings around the engine, but need to get some sheet metal to finish.... I've got some stainless sheet laying around but other than my 4" grinder, I really don't have a way of cutting it.

Get a plasma cutter Harold, with a little practice you can cut virtually millimetre perfect. If you can draw freehand with a marker pen, you can use a plasma!

Then I'd have to get an air compressor large enough to support it -- -- planning to move, maybe, in the next six months, so large/heavy item purchases are on hold.

Didn't take any pictures or videos as I went by myself, but I went out to California Speedway for some AutoX. The event was held by Fastivus. Did some laps. My 5-6 year old tires were really holding me back.... The rear end was sliding out from under me the whole time and when it wasn't, the front end was pushing......

Had the speed up for a tight section and was trying to whip the rear around to setup for the next section .. .. .. Ended up doing this really slow looping slide right through this huge area of cones..... Did win the unofficial award for most cones collected (knocked down) for the day LOL

Noticed the Ghia wasn't pulling as hard as 'normal' -- found the seal between the hat and the carb had squirted out -- need to find a fix for that.....
