I have what I believe is a ‘67 transaxle . . . 12 volt, short splines, long tubes, two-prong switch in the nose cone. The upper left hole in the bellhousing has a provision to hold the head of the bolt, but it does not work so well with a late ( doghouse ) engine case that has the insert. Should I grind a couple flat sides on a washer to fit the trans case, or should I grind those things off of the trans case, or is there some other way for me to tighten that top bolt?

I use either a thick spring washer with a normal bolt which can be a pain to tighten the last couple of turns,or an Allen bolt with washer with allen socket/ratchet with no problems at all

Grind them off the trans case.  It upgrades it to the later trans case spec.

Yep, that's what I did on my '70...

Thanks for the help folks!
I agree . . . those things have to go.
This will be the trans for my new project. I am stoked to get started on it!
