The Bluesmobug is not dead!

« on: August 12, 2012, 18:06:16 pm »

Hi!

The 30th anniversary for the Swedish VW show Bug Run is coming up in 2013.

The date is June 7th to 9th.
The place is as always Mantorp Park, Sweden.

We are planning lots of stuff to celebrate the anniversary.
Amongs other things we will gather together as many former winners as we can.

We are also running the new Bug Sprint aircooled drag racing series:

- 1st round at Bug Run #30, Mantorp Park.
- 2nd round at Bug Run Race Day, Malmoe Sweden, July 5th-6th.
- 3rd and final round at Bug Run Classic, Tierp Arena, Sweden, August 2nd to 3rd.

Tierp Arena is a brand new track that opened in 2011.
It’s already recognised as being Europe’s best drag racing facility!

Now we are also on Facebook.
http://www.facebook.com/bugrunners
Here we will gradually build up a big archive of pictures from every Bug Run show, all the way back from 1983.

BTW we are also working on an English version of our website Wink
http://bugrun.com/

I took this picture at my first Bug Run, in 1991, showing some of the class winners lining up.
On the left is Alf Teksums chopped custom, the Baja belongs to Håvard Johnsen and the looker furthest back was built by Hans Svahn.

- Tierp is 1/4 mile

- Malmoe is 1/8 mile (although it is a permanent track, it is only built for 1/8 mile racing)
It is known to be the best 1/8 mile track by far in Sweden.

- At Mantorp the distance is not yet decided, hopefully it will be 1/4 mile.
In 2011 FIA introduced new safety requirements that Mantorp couldn't afford to meet. So the track lost its 1/4 mile approval.
Mantorp now has new owners with better economy,  and the track is supposed to be upgraded to regain the FIA approval.
But wether they will be able to do this in time for the 2013 season is not certain.
However, it may be possible for Bug Run to get dispensation to run 1/4 mile anyway.
So we will have to get back to you on this...

There is more from where that came from. I will dig.
I have just located Bug Run 1988 video with Saturday evening and Sunday fun.....not for everyoen to enjoy... :-) I will maybe maybe cut a little bit in the material from Saturday night.

I myself would love to see more from the first years of BR.

I understand.
Several other foreigners say the same thing.

Wether it will be one or two days of racing hasn't been decided yet.
I bring your views forward as often as I can, and do all I can to persuade the bosses of Bug Run to race both saturday and sunday!

I will notify you as soon as it has been decided  Wink

We sure would like to see you at Tierp again!  Smiley

Mantorp Park website:

Only in Swedish  Undecided

Bug Run at Mantorp is by far the biggest event!

But for aircooled dragracing Bug Run Classic is probably the best event, as Tierp Arena is regarded as the best drag strip in Europe.

You know that car...  :-) All you need to do is go out to your garage.
Well I was even considering giving you an offer some time ago when you said that it was for sale.
But I can not afford it and I have to stay true to my plan and get the dragster back on track.

Malmö-Mantorp is 4 hours.

Finnish guys liked very much the tierp happening this year. Drive to haurbour in Helsinki, party all night, drive from Stockholm  to Tierp> get wheelies and drive back to Stockholm> party again then you are back home with record timeslips. As easy as it can be. From Stockholm to Tierp is less than from Helsinki to Alastaro(Finnish top track).
Could be easy racing with pure streetcars and proven streetcondition...

There was like NO interest when i tried to sell it. Now i would sell it without engine because i can not get it back on the track :-(

Great News!

Bug Run Classic at Tierp Arena will have two days of racing this year!!

We will race on august 2nd (friday) and 3rd (saturday).

Remember: This is the track that Tekken set his Europan Aircooled Record at last fall. 8,59 sec/263 km/h.

More info on the Bugsprint Series and other Bug Run stuff in Swedish here:
http://bugrun.com/

I'll come back with a new thread about the 2013 Bug Run shows in a few days  Wink

Nice!

Hey,

Having entered the german 1200 dynocontest it wil be a 1200 cc high compression type 3 pancake-engine with a wizard of nos nitrous system.

No claims as too horsepower yet but I do hope I make a fighting chance on the dynochallange.
My former 1200 turbo engine did 15,25 @ bitburg and I hope to do better.
The car is a close to stock 1966 fastback.

Dont expect any miracles on the track but I`ll sure as hell wil be having fun.
