the limit on a modified stock gearbox

hope its not a dumb question, but how much is kinda save with a typ1 transmission if it is highly modified.
how much hp or torque lets say i a 800-900kg bug with some track but mostly street. i know there is not a correct awnser to give but what was your experiences with it?
i like using the parts that come with the car from vw so want to stay with typ1 engine and transmission. but how far can you go? the engine can much more than the tranny is possible to hold.
i think about 300-350 hp...somwhere in between and about 400-450nm as max.

How much hp can you extract at most from a 'highly tuned' type 1 engine?....
See what I mean?
"It depends" of course

It will really depend on the clutch and traction,i found the limit of a stock vw "super beetle" mainshaft running 11.5,then the ring and pinions started to spit themsleves out to regularly at low 10s,,I went as quick as 9.33 with a stock vw 4th gear, but it just wore out after about 80 passes each time,it is possible to go quicker than that now with better clutch technology and I hope to do so using the stock mainshaft next year in my next project.
as i think Walter was pointing out,Your not going to have much stock VW engine left at those hp levels though
cheers richie

Sorry - just re-read your original post and caught the "highly modified" part so perhaps ignore my post and good luck - some people certainly appear to have made it work, but from my own experience its not just the parts or tricks used in the 'box but the installation and application as a whole; as Richie says...

thats a good point richie. a clutch softener like the easy one that kalle is using can soften the hard punches at starts thats a good thing to do. even on street.
i don't want to put a bus box or something bigger in my car before that i would go down with my hp limit that i want to reach.
is heat in the box a problem on street us?(pump and cooler)
whats the best clutch ? currently i use a 6 pack kopper one and kennedy stage1 from 2005. but the disc will be not the best for the flywheel and pressureplate right?
thanks

lets make the question different:
what do you big guys that still use a T1 gearbox have in HP and torque ...track and street.
and what can be done out of the box to help it live longer:
clutch management?
clutch itselve?
georbox oil cooling?
what else will help?

georbox oil cooling?
Completely remove and delete this thought from your mind. If anything, a heater might be of value in a drag racing application.

bruce the cooling is more for streetracing and autobahn..wenn thinking of driving 100mph vor long time...in dragrace for sure: preheater for engine and gearbox
but maybe you are right gearbox cooling could just make sence in circle track racing and co.

Every car and driver is differant so what works for one person may not work for another. I have 366 rwhp in my car ( turbo) with a type 1 transmission. I have installed an Autocraft tranny case and gear carrier (both are Aluminum ) along with a RLR rev 6 clutch setup. So far everything has been perfect , my 60 fts have been around 1.35 without doing any burnouts. My car is a fat lady , she is heavy at around 1925 lbs with driver , best E/T was 6.35 in the 1/8th . Prior to installing these last parts I was ripping out ring and pinions virtually every third pass. I have tried multiple single and double clutch setups along with several clutch management systems but the RLR works for me and I highly recommend it. Mike McCarthy

yes the car ran to 11.45 with around 190fwhp and 30rwhp of gas the box was a stock modified box with 091 first gear mod and superdiff
i had another box built as the ratios were maxed out and i wanted to run a lot more gas the new box has all ftc internals and a spool but i still use the stage 2 and a daikin
with so far good results so far 10.79 with a 1.45 60ft car weighs 690kgs
