It is with a heavy heart that I have been asked to inform the Lounge of the passing of Jack Blankenship on the 2nd of September. Personally I got to know Jack when I went to look at Blue Obsession at his home in Bellflower back in 1999. In a  usual VW folks scenario my friends and I stayed for a good few hours and then visited Jack on a few trips to California. He was a lovely , funny warm guy and I know he was extremely proud to see his "old race car" back on the strip first in England and then in Europe..R.I.P Jack I am proud to have known you..Simon

Sad  Sad news indeed. I visited Jack with Simon, drunk coffee and listened to some great stories and had some laughs...an inspiration...he was a great guy, still keen as mustard and happy to show us all his cars/projects and bug in stuff...but very humble. I think it was the first time I saw a complete collection of Hot VWs in all their binders...all round the front room!! It was great to race his car too....a real time capsule.
I shall have a beer tonight and be thinking of you...R.I.P Jack.

D.B.O. Not a club; a state of mind.

Same Blankenship family from D.V.B. in the seventies that some of us remember? Either way, sad news.

Godspeed.

It's not how fast you go; it's how you go fast.

That family was connected for years. I was in Pacific Coast Volks with Jack Jr and his brother (Bill?) just before Jr. died. Bill(?) worked in the used-parts corral at Bill & Steve's when it was at the old location on Alondra. Never met Jack Sr but Jr was a solid-gold dude.

Very shocking news about Jack . Jack and Bobbi great people they were in our club DVB back in the days good members. I remember back in the 80's when Jack wanted me to bring my 67 Ghia to be displayed in their new VW store near Nabisco I also did some work for Jack and Bobbi at their store building a few motors etc... Great memories!!!
