The Body
The shell is a 1969 bug which has been dramatically modified for drag racing. All the steel ahead of the footwell panel has been removed and replaced with a sloping headlight pre 67 flip front attached with quick release dzus fastener and race pins.  At the rear the steelwork has also been removed from the vents back, and replace with quick release fibreglass wings, and a combined full w engine lid and rear valence (again in fibreglass). The doors are light weight fibreglass items, and the windows are again light weight lexan, which have been flush mounted for aerodynamics. The car is light and two people can easily lift the front wheels of the ground! Not shown in the pictures, but also included is a set of wheelie bars, and rear aluminium wing.

The ‘Dude’s Beetle’ and other sponsors logos are all vinyl’s, and could easily be removed.

Please note, the car still has a log book which will be passed onto the new owner in case they ever want to put this back on the road. It also has a MSA logbook which is required for drag racing.


Roll Cage
Inside there is an 10 point roll cage by Jim Smith at Cotsweld. As well as the standard 6 point cage which is mandatory for cars running sub 13.00 times, there are additional door bars, a window net, rear bars which go to the frame forks, and bars which are tied into the beam which all serve to stiffen the car up for hard launches. (This cage is legal and chassis tagged down to 10.00). A towing point is attached to the cage with a screw in eye that attaches through a hole at the top of the front window for towing.


Interior
Inside the car there is a single drivers seat with 5 point Simpsons harness. The door panels and quarter panels have been replaced with light weight aluminium versions, and there is also a custom made access hatch to allow quick access to the gearbox and engine. On the dash there is an Autometer monster tach and shift light, as well as Autometer oil temperature and pressure gauges. Gears are selected using an early BERG shifter. The handbrake has been drilled to save weight, and has been converted to act as a staging brake, which is also tied into a rev limiter for predictable launching. In a further effort to save weight the pedals have also even been drilled. There is a kill switch mounted on the tunnel which can also be operated remotely by the Marshall using a pull switch mounted on the scuttle of the car.

Wheels and Tyres
The car runs on full Erco race weight wheels (4.5" at front, 6" at the back). These are shod with 135 tyres at the front, 6" M&H Racemaster slicks at the back (with plenty of life left). Also supplied are a spare set of stock wheels for on the trailer.


Brakes
At the front there are standard VW disc brakes, and at the rear the stock drums have been changed for more effective Type 3 drums. Studs have been fitted through to allow easier fitment of the wheels. A HURST linelock is fitted which is operated by a button on the shifter, which also operates the second rev limiter, for warming the tyres during burnouts.

Gearbox
The gearbox is a Rhino cased close ratio gearbox with all BERG internals, and is freshly rebuilt (by Paul at Bears Motorsport) only having about 5 or 6 passes on it. Inside there are welded close ratio gears, an aluminium spool, and all the bits you’d expect from a heavy duty race box. The box is attached to short race axles and is located using front and rear BERG solid mounts.


Suspension
The car is lowered at front with Bugpack shocks, and runs 2 pairs of caster shims to keep the car running arrow straight. Custom made limiting straps help weight transfer during launch. At the rear the car is stock height, and uses up rated torsion bars (30mm), with Bugpack shocks. Spring plate retainers have also been fitted to make sure everything stays where it should. The car has always launched very hard and very straight.  This is demonstrated by the 1.5 sec 60 foot times.

Fuel and Nitrous System
At the front, under the flip front is a Jazz racing fuel cell which feeds a Holley black fuel pump through a FRAM filter. All the fuel lines throughout the car are braided stainless and use aluminium fittings throughout. At the rear is a pressure regulator and this has a fuel pressure gauge fitted to make sure fuel is delivered to the carbs at the right pressure.

The car also comes with a full Nitrous system, which uses a twisted Sanity nitrous control box, Dynotune nitrous fogger injectors, NOS solenoids and Dynotune purge valve to allow a good clean shot of nitrous. The nitrous system is set up only to operate on wide open throttle (using a micro switch on the throttle pedal), and is locked out on first gear to save the gearbox during launches. All the NOS system is hardwired into the car and takes out the guess work of using NOS for consistent ET’s. I will even supply the tools to tap your manifolds for the NOS foggers, as well as some assorted NOS spares.


Ignition System
Although the car comes without a motor it does include a full MSD Ignition system based around a MSD 6AL control unit, with a fully programmable 3 step rev limiter (using twist dials) which is used to control burn out, launch, and top end RPM. The battery is located up front under the flip front in a battery box, to help keep weight at the front, and for safety.
