Hello racers,

I got an engine with Kugelfischer injection and (I guess...) IDA-size throttle bodies. The butterflies are 2", it says "KRE" on them. Could this be Kawell Racing Engines?

Yes, that is correct.
Hot VW's or perhaps VW Greats back in the old days.(late 70's early eighties?)
did a feature on them.
I have a set and was able to bore them to 56mm.
You may be able to go larger if you dont need the nozzle air bleeds.

I've been running a set of those on the blue car for a few years now. I came to the same conclusion about it being Krawell, but have not confirmed it. They are the same as ARPM from "back in the day."

The one's I bought had worn out shaft bores, so I bushed them, then bored them to 52mm.

Interesting, I would have said Hilborn if it was not the KRE on them.
I have a set that looks like that and I am pretty sure mine are Hilborn.
Now the only difference is the barrel metering valve casting.
Maybe done by Hilborn both of them?

I think KRE and ARPM may have had Hilborn make them.
November 1978 was the HotVWs issue that the story was in.

I have a set also, talked to Dave and yes he did design and sold them. He needed funds for something else and sold all of it . I think BUGPACK ended up with them. Mike McCarthy

Thanks all for the information!

I think there's no need to go bigger, it's only a 2liter engine...
