Im working on a deal for a 61 cal looker, it lowered on adjusters on the front, stock rear
It currently has BBT steel sprinstars, both 5.5s i think
Im in the UK, anyone have any advice on the best combo of tyres to get a nice stance
I was thinking 145/80/15 up front and maybe 195 0r 205/70/15 rears
been scouring thesamba and here to see what looks best, but also interested in what works well in practice

With the availability of different sizes these days there are nicer tires than 135's and 145/15's. 185/60's (23 3/4" tall), 175/60's (23 1/4") or 175/65's (just under 24"), or 165/65's (23 1/2") will all handle and brake much better than what you're contemplating. I have runboth 135's and 145's and they can be scary in a panic stop (especially with front discs) when the road is wet or dusty. If you're looking to put somehting together that is fun (and safe) to drive then a liittle wider than a 145 would be a good idea.
For the rear you might want to look at something a little shorter than a 205/70-15; at almost 27"tall, unless you're running a big motor they'll suck the acceleration out of your car. A 195/65 (just under 25") or 205/60 (almost 24 3/4" ) are both very close to stock height and might be more practical on a car that's driven. Of course, if all you're after is the look....

Its just going to be a dry day weekend warrior, just a fun car, not a daily driver. It will have a 1641 for the time being.
I'm after the right look, but want it driveable. I'm not sure what combos other UK Members have chosen,

145 up front but see if you can swap the 5.5" front sprints for 4.5" ones then either a 195/65 or 185/70 rears this ones 145 on 4.5" fronts and 185 on 5.5" rears

I was searching some info and ideas as I have to change all 4 tires on my 68. I'm currently using 145/15 front and 165/15 rear. Wheels are early Fush 5.5 and 6". The front is lowered only using CB perf drop spindles. It drives well, handle well, but I'm looking for something different. I don't know which way to go. 145/15 and 185/70 rear? 145/15 and 195/65/15? or 175/65/15 and 195/65/15. I fear to have rubbing issue with 175 front tires. Do any of you is using this dimension with drop spindles and a stock beam? Thxs

I'm really happy with 165-65 and 205-65 both on 6" rims. Had 155-65 and 195-65 but now it's better

Stock with avis adjusters. Short Bugpack dampers.
Rear I have 5 lowered inner and 5 raised outer splines.
With 215-65 MH DOT tires I can slip my fingers to the knuckels between tire/wing.

She sure looks nice ! I still don't know what to choose though I like the classic look of the 145 and 165 tires, I don't need wider tires with a 1641cc engine but wider tires always looks mean.

I'm also very unsure about which tires fit on my 4.5 and 5.5 SA Sprintstars I love classic look of Michelin zx 145 front / 185 rear but 185 are soo expensive ... then someone says that 145 are too narrow Vredstein are nice but 155/80 overall diameter is too high for the front ..... Other choices with classic look ?

On this pic I had 155 firestones in the front en 205/70 in the back. Should have never sold those tires and gone for 135..

Everyone has their own opinion on what looks right, works right, etc. Just buy a set of damn tires and see for yourself already

Sorry to bring this back up! I am looking for some tyres/tires for my short rear axle bug I will be running 5 and 6.5 BRM copies, looking at 155 on the front and 205 x 70 on the rear. Any recommendations, I priced up Verdestein rears and they are $500 each!!!! Thanks

I got a pair of Michelin XWX 205/70 for £55 each off ebay! I don't flinch when smoking them. Cheap as chips! £270 new each! Just looked on ebay, there's another single one on there for £55 including postage. But it's in the UK so I guess no good for you.
