Does anyone know who may have owned or driven this Ghia? I may be buying it.

That looks like Jim Larsens Ghia.
Cant recall any magazine features, but something in my head says pre 1986 hot VWs may have featured it.
Tube front axle?
It was definitely photographed in that era at events with wheels up.
It had an extended wheelbase from memory.

I think that may be the first incarnation.
The more I think about it, the more I am sure it was featured in HotVWs magazine in the mid 80's,
with extended wheelbase and tube front axle.
I will search the archives.

Greg, theres a video on UAC that shows this car racing without the front end panels and I'm sure its got the tube axle there. I think it might have been torsion bar at stock length then drop tube when it was stretched.

The feature I recall from the mid 80's had the tube axle,
but there may have been some changes to the steering rack since then.
I MUST look for the magazine so I can tell you the exact issue date.

I seem to have lost my Jan 1986 issue of Hot VWs,
but all evidence points toward this being the edition
that featured Jim Larsen's "Elongated 1/4 mile Ghia"

Wait til you see how beautiful it was!

Just a cover shot would be nice, Speedwell, for those who do not remember how nice this car once was.

Look for this car to be on display at todays Bug In at Irwindale Drag Strip. The present owner is looking for it to go to a good home.

Greg,

Looks like that was Jimmy's car.  Did you ask him?  Did you buy it?

I have the matching front wheels that came on Candy's car when I bought it from them, I'll sell them cheap if anyone is interested, they are a spindle mount Centerline I believe.

Maybe who ever buys it will want the Wheels Dom.
I wish I owned it Ron. It would make a cool street car.

Someone looking to restore a piece of history? My friend Robert has the old Jimmy Larsen Ghia for sale.

Is that the same Robert Rubio that worked for me at Barrett Enterprises back in the day?
