so..my friend abandoned a VW project and I had a chance to buy some nice parts he had for his engine for cheap. So now I have this:



69mm DRD crank, 8 dowelled, matching lightened flywheel for 200mm clutch
I beam rods with ARP bolts
110/119 WEB cam with WEB matching lifters
single HD springs, 1.1 rockers with bolted shafts
26mm Schadek oil pump
AS42 mag case, original VW low mileage from ex firepump
AA 92mm thickwall cylinders with forged pistons

what to do what to do?
I have NOS singleport heads to play with, so I´m thinking something along well balanced "stockish" engine with modyfied stock Solex carb, or twin baby Dells or even small turbo? Turbo is very tempting for me!

Welcome to my afternoon benchracing thread.

Keep in mind that my other car has a 2276 with 86C cam, 11:1, 48 DRLAs so I´m not looking for the most powerful or run of the mill engine. The 1835 will eventually go to my VW 147 Fridolin with 3.88 transmission.

What would YOU do with parts I have?

I had a chance to buy them at approx. half the price ..

I would turbo it. 044 CB heads, good rods, ECU - injection - intercooler - E85 and 350+ hp easily. Oh... and dont forget to hold a firm grip on your hat when you take it for a ride.

181 asks for a mild engine, you give him the recipe to a 350hp + motor. I like the way you're thinking  Grin

That cam is an odd cam. Too much split for anything but limited centermount, and not much called idle, unless dual carbs is used.
If you have a good set of Sgl. ports, use them. Get a simple W100 cam, use the baby Dells, (Remember a phenolic isolator. They run so much better withthese) Dont be affraid of CR. Do a good port job, and you´ll get yourself a nice stomp puller that will pull 85 hp easy.
I recently finished a very detailed 1914 sgl. port for a customer. 105 hp with Kadrons.

Hans L. (Swedish bloke) actually did something similar this summer and pulled about the same on a 1835.
