In Homer's voice: "mmm.. red 'vert.."
More photos, Fred? Don't think I've seen that one before.
HAHA!! I dig the Homer mention. Best show EVER. The red '66 is our own Lisa's. I actually need to shoot some shots of just her car. But in the meantime... here ya go:
7" Porsche cookie cutters on the back and her factory caps are in the mail. Next pics should have those included. She nailed the proper stance, in my opinion... car sits just right.

Very nice photo (as usual) in the HB Harbor Mark!
Thanks for the kind words, Rick. I was shooting into the sun, which I hate doing... but sometimes, I get lucky.

Love your new wheels Fred!!
Thanks, JHU... had 'em on the car since early July now. They were originally supposed to be back up wheels for my BRMs. But I like the car better this way. Looks cool with the hubcaps off, as well.

Great pics Mark!
I'm glad to see Harbor House is still in business. I used to eat there all the time during my surfing adventures at HB and Bolsa Chica. I remember always getting healthy portions; all great food. To give you an idea the last time I ate there was when Red Onion was across the street, another hangout of mine back then. I can't agree more about Lisa's car; stance is perfect! Engine specs? You guys need to start a website possibly...

X2. A perfect example on how less is better.
Well, in this case anyways
Nice look with painted T-bars.
Now...if we can only do something about those turnsignals.

The gray hubcaps looked different, and that's cool in my book, but with them of it just looks bad ass!
One thing I would think about would be to loose the trim on the running boards... just an idea! (As if you don't have enough)

Thanks. Harbor House Cafè has been going strong since '39 and servin' up some killer food and biers ever since. Dang, it HAS been awhile for you... RED ONION? Those were some fun days. Can't believe that I'd take my orange '66 and leave it in that parking lot, back then.

I appreciate the props. As for the front indicators... I like Cal Lookers with or without 'em. Don't have a preference, really. But since they're already there, they're not going anywhere.

Somewhere on The Lounge (Cal Look wheel thread?), I posted when I put those wheels and tires on the car. Think it was early July when it was all complete. I bought the 5½" chrome 356 wheels from fellow DEEK, Brent Kooiman, at the VW Classic in June for $50. They came with the 195-65-15 Pirelli tires. The front 4½" ones were a nice gift from the same generous person that I bought my EMPI 5 spokes from almost thirty years ago... Dave Rosique. Those had REALLY cool 135 Pirelli Cinturato P3 tires on 'em. Sadly, even though the tread on both was still good... the sidewalls were too weathered to be safe. So, after looking everywhere for a non-Nankang 145 tire, I gave up and went with the new mold that Nankang had just came out with. At first, I didn't think that the 65% profile of the rear tires was going to work out. But I'm liking it, now.
Fronts.
As for the wheels, I took 'em to work, sand blasted the chrome both inside and outside. Wiped down the wheels with paint reducer, applied two coats of etching (green) primer, lightly dry sanded between coats w/400 grit, applied sanding primer (gray) and repeated the sanding process, applied the final silver metallic paint with a light sanding between coats. The original plan was to finish the wheels and caps with a semi-gloss clear. But after I let the paint cure, I was very pleased with the factory-like finish. The goal was to end up with something that looked like an original Porsche paint finish. After lurking on the 356 forums, I achieved that. Same process was applied to the hubcaps. Then, I got some Wolfsburg porcelain crests instead of Porsche ones. Those have been done to death and I wanted something that matched my VW Formula Vee steering wheel. My theory, since my first car, is that the wheels much match the steering wheel.
Rear.
I've always admired the 356 wheels in their original silver paint and never cared for chrome ones. Really wish that I would've kept the set of REAL Porsche 356 wheels (n.o.s.) that were on my orange car... live and learn, yes? Thank you for the kind words.
Hubcap w/etching primer.

Thanks, JHU... I like the fact that I can get easily get two different looks with or without the caps. I've actually considered removing the running board trim pieces. Perhaps, later, when I get the big engine and transmission in there, one day.

I've always wondered how 356 wheels and hub caps would look painted John Deere Blitz Black
Sort of like a stealth fighter look.

Drù, your car looks great. I like the '60s era look to it.
Vdubkid, I've often wondered the same thing. Always wanted to see what a completely blacked out black VW with a huge engine would look like.

Leif Nylund's flat nose Modified Standard racer (that class was later renamed Super Stock after the NHRA rulebook harmonization) in mid to late 80's.
