I LOVE IT!!!! Great stuff Keith. I remember reading all the Drag strip magazines that I could when I was little. Brings back a ton of memories. Anybody remember this magazine? I read these things cover to cover when I was in grade school.

Found a neat link to one of the magazines cover to cover. It was better than Mad magazine to me back then because it was ALL CAR STUFF! Hot Rod culture in cartoon form. Grabbed us young un's by the brain. http://recordbrother.typepad.com/imagesilike/files/cartoons_feb_66.pdfEnjoy and see why us So Cal kids were so demented on Hot Rods, groomed for grease at an early age.

Cool stuff, Worm... hate to think how many times I got busted sneak-reading those in high school! There was a display of their stuff at last year's Winternationals...

Cartoons!!!!! I loved that magazine / comic book when I was a kid in grade school as well!! I had so many issues of it and I wish i still had them today! I also collected those Ed Roth type Hot Rod bubblegum trading cards / stickers at the time too. I don't remember what they were called. Wish I still had those! I had so many of those Hot Rod Monster shirts back then too. I remember I had a Barracuda shirt that had a bad ass drawing of a 'Cuda that said - Get aboard, grab a hammer and nail a ford......I also built many models like these at the time.......Great Memories

Pete Millar was a nice guy, great artist and a drag racer as well. I met him in the 1980's when he was being used as a technical artist in the litigation arena. A good sense of humor, needless to say. You'd have to have that in order to put out that magazine each month. Every car was able to smoke up, pop a wheelie and shoot flames. His passing was a blow to everyone who loved his work.

One of my favorite shots in Solvang, California. Just by coincidence there was a Mortensen's Bakery (danish spelling like my last name) that we got a shot of my 67 looker in front of.

I love how after three decades, DEEKS can still get together, remove & install an engine, remedy a pesky main seal leak, fire up the car and take her out into the cold night Fall night and reap the reward(s) of friendships that shall not wane any time soon.
Lisa, Henry, and I... somewhere between Heaven & Earth.
This Thanksgiving season, much like year round, I am thankful for not only my family... but equally for my "other family" as my mother would call my VW club.

Ted Thank you, again, for the kind words. But there's a good reason that you've never seen too many bad ones. 'Cause I try not to let too many out. You're not missing anything from the shots in the car... the rest were not lit right, overexposed, or out of focus. Took me a few times to get it right.
Flashback to 2009.

Yes, that is a super shot! I know exactly how hard that is to do, especially at night, standing/kneeing in the back seat area, with cold wind hitting you in the face... Try focusing in at 40mph with a lowered front end! Extra points for that one.... deano

Wow! I'm honored, Deano... thanks! The cold air was my only complaint. At my age, hands are the only things that get cold. Which makes matters difficult when you're trying to hold a camera with both. HAHA!! 'Twas well worth it, though.
Well, play nice, kiddies... off to watch some blues bands at the ocean.

Rob,
The 67 was painted a VW factory color called "Bold Caribbean Teal". We used a base coat/clear coat Glazurit paint on it. Pricey but the quality and outcome was high!

I've seen it yesterday too. I'll preferred without the two tones color but it's a pretty cool car.
