I know is a bit of self promotion, but this picture was taken by one of the marshals at Santa pod and they made the effort to come find us and get my email address to make sure they could send it to me,anytime a track marshal enjoys seeing a VW on the track is a bonus as far as I am concerned Smiley To me everything about it makes it a cool pic Grin

I know parachutes are stylish but they really hurt your ET and trap speeds. Wink

Seriously, that's a cool photo self-promotion or otherwise.

An original harlequin...

Now THAT is cool. VW always had the best ads, bar none. I would drive that car... it looks great. Thanks for sharing, Sarge. Glad that I kept a few of my VW ads that I collected during the eighties. I'd hit the antique swap meet at Vet's Stadium in Long Beach and buy as many of the old TIME, LIFE, and LOOK magazines as I could. Razor out the VW ads and put 'em away. Their photography and words were simply the best.

It was that and fun at the same time. Honored that I was one of the few that got to be one during the air cooled years.

Hahaha... I remember well my first day behind the parts counter at Renfree VW in Orange and "fun" it wasn't.  I came in thinking I knew a lot about VW's and was reminded immediately that what I "knew" fit on the sharp end of a tack.  My first "customer" was at the mechanics counter... he needed
prices on a butt-load of automatic trans parts for a Type III and was in a HUGE hurry.  Everything was in big paper catalogs (no computers) and all pricing had to be looked up and written down.  All for $550.00 a month in wages!  To me, the best time to have been a VW parts guy would have been right from the start in the early '50's.  I was reminded of this years later by Darrell Vittone when he whipped out an old Type I parts catalog....
only nine digit numbers with no letters... 111 903 137 fan belt.  Now days it's a whole different ballgame!

Actually that is not a vinyl banner, but rather, a plywood sign (made from many sections). RIP.
