I actually got my car out for a local Friday night meet a few months back and I keep coming back to this one picture. Taking a daylight-ISO film out at night isn't my brightest idea, but it turned out pretty good for this single shot!

Does any of this qualify as "Cal-Look"?

Dunno but your engine looks nice!
Watch that oil filter though, looks like it's hanging low from that angle..

Took my bug out for a fun cruise on the 4th of July and finally got the film from that day developed.

It really blows me away that all of them are actually accounted for, somehow they managed to survive the ages unlike so many other prototypes of hundreds of other things.

Yeah what fun, air cooled bump drafting slingshot passing.
I imagine the Bug race was only a couple laps long.
I wonder back then how much prep was put into the bugs? Stock seat, lap belts, stock brakes?
I bet most of them drove them to the track too.  Grin

It sure looks like the flag guy is ready to wave a green flag for the FV?
The FV were likely lined up to race next, with a lap to warm up tires and a rolling start.
For safety sake open wheel cars prefer not to race with sedans.

Look at the one without the towel rails on the bumper, just right of centre of the photo. It's got bullet indicators, so it's a 56/57 oval, and it looks like it's wearing the number 3 on the door.
If I remember right, didn't Empi run Darrell's car like that before it became the Inch Pincher? Could that be it?

Darrell's car (driven by Dan Gurney) won the GP of Volkswagens at Nassau, of which this is a photo...

I was gonna say, I thought it looked familiar from some older article about the early days of the Inch Pincher, but I wasn't 100% sure.

That was really fun. I'm glad that you convinced me to dust my bug off and take it for a ride.

Found this picture of IP1 on Reddit of all places, one I've never seen before. Also interestingly pre Flower-power roof but with the larger rear window.
